Transferring License Question

Hi all!

Newbie poster here, I hope I put this in the right place..

If I transfer my RN license to California, will my Texas license still be active?

I'm job hunting for a possible move, but all of the jobs say I need a California license to apply.

However, I have a nursing job in Texas and don't want to lose my capability to work here in the mean time.

There's no such thing as "transferring" a nursing license -- you would be applying for a new, separate license in the new state. You would still have your TX license, and can keep it active for as long as you're willing to pay the renewal fees and meet whatever other requirements (like continuing ed credits) the state may have. The only situation that is a little different is if you're moving from one compact state to another compact state.

If you don't plan on going to Texas for a while, you may want to explore the idea of placing your TX license on inactive status, if that is something they offer. I am currently in Michigan and placed my NC license on inactive, that way I don't run the risk of letting it expire and don't have to worry about sending fees down when I don't know if/when I'll go back. Again, I don't know if TX does offer this but it might be worth asking, they probably will have something on their website. FYI
