Transcripts for Nursing application--Grrrrr

So is anyone else here applying to Ivy Tech by Sept 1st, and took one or more pre-reqs from a different college?

I took Psych and English at a different college. I had my official transcripts sent to Ivy Tech for transfer of credit, which was FINALLY processed in July after first submitting them back last September. So yay, they finally gave me credit.

All along, I've been thinking I could go to the Registrar and ask for a "copy of the official transcript" (that I had sent to Ivy Tech from my other college), to use in the application materials (where you highlight the courses and grades you received). In the FAQ handout from the nursing info meeting, it says "If any of the courses are from another college and you have submitted an official copy to the Ivy Tech Comm College Registrar, you may request a copy of the official submission from the Registrar. This will have a stamp with the date received and is acceptable for your application."

So I go today to the Registrar at Lawrence to get my Ivy Tech transcript with my two A&P classes on it, and to get my "copy of the official" from my other college. They tell me that first of all I'd have to go to the Meridian campus because that is where the official transcript would be; and secondly they don't think I can get a copy. That I'll have to request another official one from my previous college to be sent directly to me. ARRGGGHHHH! So I went home and emailed a lady in the Meridian Registrar's office that had helped me get my stupid transcripts processed, and she emailed right back and said "We can't give you a copy of another school's transcript." and went on yada yada about how the nursing chairs can request transcripts to review, etc. Huh? Yeah right, the nursing chair is going to take it upon herself to request my transcript so that they can look at it for my admission.

Just irks me to no end that everyone tells you different info. It says right in the nursing FAQ that you can request a copy of the official transcript, but now I'm told the Registrar can't do that.

I guess I will just be safe and order a THIRD official transcript (already requested and paid for two because Ivy Tech lost the first one I had sent so I had to request a second) and have it sent to ME so I can highlight the courses and grades on it.

Oh, and the Registrar at Lawrence gave me an "Unofficial Transcript" but it has a seal and electronic signature on it, so I guess that is acceptable for nursing application even though it says Unofficial. . . I walked right up to the nursing office and showed the girl there to make damn sure it would be acceptable.

I just know you have it all together! That being said, I think this falls under the "better safe than sorry/better late than never" guidelines of Ivy Tech! Hang in there, it will all be worth it in the end. :)

Hey Chris, actually the nursing chair will make some exceptions! When I had been planning on applying for the fall start, I was going to be out of town when our transcripts from the spring were finalized and released. I emailed her and told her my problem and she said just to note it, and they can easily pull the transcript. I would assume it would be the same with transcripts from other colleges as well. Hopefully it all works out for you and I will be thinking of you during this nerve wracking time!!

Thanks Kara! I decided to just be safe and I went ahead and ordered official transcripts from both my previous colleges, to be sent to me. The second college that I actually graduated from isn't even where I took Eng and Psych, but I figured I would include it anyway just to be safe and to prove I graduated so they know they can accept my 22-yr old credits for those classes!
