Traditional BSN or Accelerated!?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi! I am a third year undergraduate student who has not studied nursing. I am pretty sure that I want to become some sort of nurse practitioner or CRNA.

After Spring '15, I will be two (challenging) classes away from finishing my major. However, my school does offer a traditional BSN program. Here are my options:

1. At the end of Spring '15, apply to the traditional BSN program here. Graduate with a BSN in Spring 2017, letting my first three years of undergrad go to waste (in terms of degree pursuit). I am like 98% sure that I would be accepted. Apply to grad school after that, either immediately or after working for a few years (for CRNA).

2.Complete my undergraduate path as planned and graduate with a B.S. in Fall of '15. Apply to several ABSN/MSN and ABSN/DNP programs and hope I get in!!! I would really like to return to the northeast. Issue is, these programs are insanely competitive and there's a huge chance that I will not get in anywhere...

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

I would probably go with the first one. Are you pretty certain you'd be able to get into that program? It's usually smart to apply to multiple programs. If you're only in your third year, there's no point in finishing a degree you have no plans to use.

Whatever way gets you where you need to be ASAP. I have an ABSN and if I did it over I would have just done it for my first degree. No one gives a crap that I have a business bachelors. Just get it done cheapest and quickest way possible. Then move on from there. I mean...thats just my view..you may have a different one.
