Touro College Nursing Program

Published

Hello,

My name is Stephanie and I was recently accepted into the nursing program at Touro college in Brooklyn, NY. I will be going in as a transfer student since I have a degree in Biology. The reason why I'm here is because I wanted to know if anyone had any information on the program. I have done a lot research, but the program itself is still pretty new and I wanted to know a little bit more about the program at this school and about other people's experiences. Thank you.

Hey guys,

My name is Mo and I got accepted to the program as well!!! I am super excited and can not wait to start. However, i am still a bet concerned going to Touro because i do not know much about this program. Do alot of students drop out? Is it a difficult program? Do they give us the tools to do well? Let me know your thoughts please.

Mo, I've heard the program is very difficult, but they teach you and test you for the NCLEX. they have tutoring, and the teachers always seem to want to help you from what I've heard from other students. Kids do drop out, like they do in other programs. your gonna want to do it to survive. It's alot of studying and work and stress but it can be done. All the people I've known since the 1st semester are going to the 3rd semester in the fall. my first year I just did liberal art classes, this fall I start with the nursing classes.

If they accept my transfer credits, I should be starting nursing classes as well :) Is there a gpa that we need to maintain? Is there anything you are doing to better prepare yourself? Like studying etc...

Also, Is it like a 9-5 type of a program or whenever our classes start. For example,in Pharmacology, would classes be from lets say 9-5 everyday or is it once a week?

Thank you so much!

You have to get nothing lower than a B in nursing classes ( nur 110, nur 130 etc.) In other classes doesn't matter too much, but I belive you almost must maintain a 3.0 GPA not 100% sure on that.the classes are whenever they are. For example pharmacology could be on a Tuesday from 10-3 fundamentals Wednsday 8-11 skills lab 12-2 and clinicals are supposed to be about 8 hours but I heard many professors let out after 4-6 hours. There's nothing different I'm doing, just mentally preparing myself for all the work and stress that I know I'm gonna have. I have the fundamentals books so over the summer I might read that and I'm gonna find out what the pharmacology book is and read that too yo prepare myself a little, dk if that would help at all though . And I just ask other kids what were studying techniques were and talk to them about there classes.

Specializes in Telemetry.

Yes! Hopefully I start taking a class or two. I'll find out in July.

Thanks this is all so helpful I really appreciate it. Do you know the name of the books the professors use for funde mental, pharmacology, and pathopsyiology? That's a great idea, maybe I will start preparing myself

for pharm im not sure, I forgot to ask my friend. Fundmentals is fundamentals of nursing the art and science of nursing care by taylor, lillis, lemone, lynn 7th edition. thats what i was told at orientation. so unless they came out with a new edition thats the one im gonna use. Patho im not sure either, idk anyone whose taking that. That i would wait and see who the professor is and until class. Cause i had prof lemmo for A&P II this semester and the book that i was told by danielle was different from what he had told us. And i think lemmo teaches patho, but im not 100% sure.

Do we get to choose how many classes we want to take a semester? Or is there a specific requirement?

12 credits Minimum to be a full time student 18 credits max. After 18 you pay extra per credit and need to be approved

Awesome thanks for the info ☺
