Tourist Visa for RPN?

Published

hello nurses...

i am new member on this site..and i have read all your discussions here regarding RPN program of ontario,

and as of now i am planning to apply as RPN in ontario but i need your help regarding the visa required..

i am registered nurse here in philippines, and now currently connected with Philippine Red Cross as Volunteer Phlebotomist which is 7 months already. my question, is it possible to write and sit the RPN exam under tourist visa? because my plan will be like this, i will submit my application to ontario thru online/mail, then if they will allow me to take the said exam,i will comply all the requirements as stated..and if the examination date is fixed, i will apply as tourist visa in the immigration bound to ontario and use the certification from college so that i my visa will approve immediately..after taking exam,i will go back to philippines to wait for the results and as well as apply for permanent residency.

is it possible to happen? I need your help nurses...thanks so much....

Moved to the International forum as this has nothing to do with actual Canadian nursing.

It is possible to do it this route however we have had a few post that they was not able to get a tourist visa for Canada despite showing enough paperwork re eligibility to sit exam and returning to own country and wait for further processing

Thank you for your reply...

but can you give me some advice what i am going to do for me to write and sit the RPN exam? visa is my problem.. are there any visa that would permit me to take the exam? thanks so much...

You may have no choice but to find employer or have 12 months paid experience and apply for PR and sit the Canadian exam once in Canada. You may be able to get a temp license which allows you to work whilst waiting to sit exam

Immigration here has clamped down on the use of tourist visas for such endeavors. There have been too many people who came on tourist visas ostensibly to write an exam who then did not return to their home country as promised. It costs a lot of taxpayers' money to track down violators and process them so the issuance of tourist visas has been toughened up. As well, to reach the point of being eligible to write a professional exam in Canada often means having to undergo assessments of competence which require a stay of several weeks. Regulatory bodies don't worry about immigration, and immigration doesn't worry about regulatory requirements. It's becoming harder and harder to come to Canada without all the details being dealt with first, so as silverdragon102 says, PR first might be the best option.

Thanks so much for the information...

but how about if i will not state to them my main purpose to sit for exam rather i will tell them that i am going in canada for a tour only? i will reserve for an hotel and like, then i have my business here in philippines, have my properties, enought money to show, enrolled in a master program, and my boyfriend is already canadian citizen. don't you think these scenario will denied me to get the tourist visa?

I want to take the RPN exam first so i would know if i will pass or not before i will settle down in canada.. for assurance purposes.:D

Do you think lying is a good start?

And lying like this is the reason that many foreign nurses are unable to easily get tourist Visas for legitimate reasons.

A tourist Visa in most nations is just that, a Visa to be a tourist only.

Unfortunately many many foreign nurses have pulled that bait and switch enough times that it is hurting those that are honest.

i am afraid that they will denied me if so..but i will try to apply as Tourist visa for purpose to sit the exam only..

hopefully my documents are sufficient to qualify me for Tourist visa..

thanks so much..

It seems that the original poster has every intension of returning home. Your best bet is to be up front with your application so you're truthful and pray you're given the opprotunity to test. If you're denied then that of course is a setback but at least you can say you tried it the honest way.

I'm unsure of immigration to Canada but can you apply for permanent residency and then once you arrive then you can take the exam? I know having your exam completed is ideal but sometimes that plan has to be tweaked with. Good Luck

Because the exam is only taken 3 times a year the college will issue a temp working license which allows with certain restrictions you to work whilst waiting to sit the exam
