Took Hesi A2 today

Exam was actually harder than I anticipated. I'm a GCU Banner Boswell Fall 2014 transfer Fast Track hopeful; GPA around 3.6.

My brain feels fried but maybe this will help someone. In no particular order.

Ok so remember when you were told you wouldn't need to study for or complete the Biology section on the Hesi? They changed their minds. I'm taking microbiology this summer but I managed an 88%. Get the basics down about the cell, types of cell division (number of chromosomes produced) , traits, & white blood cells & immune system in great detail (useful for A&P section).

Math was pretty easy. I scored 94%. Roughly 55 questions. No roman numerals that I recall. Ignore all the online math reviews that focus on algebra or any reviews that don't take advantage of a basic calculator. Because there is a calculator and the math is pretty basic. Watch some videos on dimensional analysis (try it a few times), memorize some basic conversions, fractions (all kinds), ratios, decimals, percents. Ratios were all pretty much like this X:10::30:100.

Vocab 92%. Try studying words an RN might use to describe symptoms (e.g., speed, frequency, changes, condition status) and words describing how things like an I.V. or a catheter are functioning or what might need to be checked to ensure they are working properly.

Chemistry: my score 88%. I didn't do well in Chm in school but did alright on this section. Review what everyone else says to review. What stands out were bonds, ions, periodic table (if you want memorize the more commonly used elements), charges, some simple type basic equations, balancing charges, types of energy, etc.

A&P (84%). I was not pleased with this score. I studied long and hard for A&P and did very well in class. When I arrived at home I looked up a few of the terms that I had been completely unfamiliar with and they involved parts of the book my teachers skimmed over or ignored completely. I am taking Patho this summer and am thinking the questions I missed will most likely get covered then. One thing i will mention to study is larger body cavities. Where they are, what they separate, what they are made out of.

Reading I scored a 90%. Could have been much higher. Ok pay close attention now. I am going to hook you up big time. The reading section is scored on 4 concepts: Meaning, conclusions, implications, & understanding. Know exactly what those words do not mean and look for some examples with those exact terms.

I scores 94% on grammar. Most of the answers I was able to sound out. These were pretty basic questions. I spent some time reviewing practice questions and investigated why many of the less obvious, but incorrect, answers were wrong. There were a few questions about the parts of speech.

Good luck

What did you use to prepare?

The book the testing company publishes, quizlet, youtube, and my class notes.
