Too Posh to push?? Thoughts please!

Nurses General Nursing

I read an article recently that stated many women these days are opting for elective c-sections rather than experiencing labor. What I want to know is, are there any greater risks associated with elective c-section? How do nurses and doctors feel about this?

I'm a bit upset that women actually want to have a major surgery so to avoid the pain of labor or to have baby home in time for christmas or so they can choose the childs birthday.

Your thoughts??

VBAC policies vary from hospital to hospital and doctor to doctor.

I'm 37 weeks along now with my second child. I had it pretty easy with my first delivery. Although I don't agree with the reasoning, I definitely am having more and more days where I WISH I could just request a C-section to be performed tomorrow. :)

And a tummy tuck?!! I wish!! Hey, if I had to have a C-section and insurance would cover the tummy tuck, I would take it in a second. :)

But anyway, I do agree with you all in that delivery ought to be triggered by nature unless there are true medical reasons for induction or C-sections. I had 3 friends deliver babies within 3 weeks of the birth of my first daughter. They were all induced and every one of them had to eventually have C-sections. Therefore, induction and C-sections don't conjur (spelling?) up good thoughts for me.

I had two inductions myself, and I just consider myself lucky to have not been sectioned for either one!

I was absolutely terrified of having a C-sec. The thought that someone would think that is preferable to vag is insane to me. I can see where someone who had a previous section may not want to attempt a VBAC, I wouldn't myself, for the risk involved, but choosing to do it for sheer convienience or cosmetic reasons is not right.

WOW interesting!

I'd have a tummy tuck if he did them, in a HEARTBEAT. lol IF he were qualified to do one that is. I mean think about that, you have the baby, and while they are in there do some repair work, and no more surgery!

I think that VBAC's are safer than what general society wants us to believe they are (in most cases). This is the third c/s for me, third hospital and this is the only one i've encountered who WON"T allow VBAC's. I sincerely believe its a woman's choice overall.

I'm 36 weeks now and OMG the peri pain is killing me. JUST killing me. UGH. Not to mention the baby playing bouncy on my scar line/tissue SUCKS......
