Too Old to go back for LPN - BSN bridge??

Published

I have been working as a LPN the past 2 years and really want to go back to school to get my BSN. It would take me 3 years to complete instead of 4 since I have my LPN already. I was worried that I am too old to do this... I just got married and my husband and I would like to have children some day. Only problem, if I go back to school right away that puts me at 31 when I graduate and I worry that is too old to start a family. But I am sure that we we started a family before I went back to school that I would never go back and do it.

What do you all think? I think I would really regret it if I don't do this... but I also really want children one day and am scared that waiting till 31 to start a family is too old.....

You just got married? Why stress out over kids and, or school right away? Why not take some time for just you and your husband. Kids and school will be available next year. If anything, I would suggest a Dr.'s visit to discuss or find out about possible contraindications (specifically for you)to having children in your thirties. I do understand how difficult it can be to go back to school later in life. Perhaps you could make a contract with your husband that you answer to his every whim if your not enrolled by a certain date (not sure where his motivation would be though) :D.

31...to old? Never. When I was 33 I had a B.S., career in social service, in the process of purchasing a new home and Lexus and enrolling in graduate school. HOWEVER......I got pregnant, lost my job, and lived with my parents. I eventually completed my M.Ed. in 2008 and as of today, at the wonderful of 43, enrolled to complete my remaining prereq.'s for nursing school.

I will complete Nursing school in 2013 if I go part time (allowing student loans to cover maximum allowed credit hour per quarter) OR in 2012 if I go full time and pay for a maximum of 1-4 credit hours out of my personal expenses. Either way I will be 45 or 46, and happy as I can be.....completing nursing school....and starting a MSN program.

Don't worry, you'll do well in school and have that beautiful family you and your husband desire.....even if its at 31 or 34. If it's any comfort to ease your mind, my aunt had her child at 41 and she's doing very well for herself and family. Best wishes and don't worry.

Thank you so much ladies for the responses! The more I think about it I am defiantly going to go for it and start my BSN. I would regret it forever if I didn't. 31 shouldn't be too old to have children..especially since i am in very healthy, I workout in the gym 5 days a week (and have been doing so since I was 18, and before that was a competitive figure skater) so I have maintained my grade 12 weight of 130 pounds , etc , etc. I think I should be fine having kids at 31...even though i have the baby big now...

err that is supposed to say "baby bug" not "baby big" haha
