Too Low Houston TX Travel Pay????

I'm a first time travel RN, who has been offered an assignment in Houston, TX. They want to offer me $18/hr plus a $273 weekly meal per diem. That seems quite low, but I don't know if this is normal for this area. I also don't know how to go about finding out what the per diem rates for RN's in this area is. Any feedback????

Thanks,

First Time Traveler.

DONT. Houston is one of the highest paying cities in Texas. New grads start out at around $26/hr plus differentials.

I agree. I made almost that as an extern while in nursing school. You should be making twice that as a travel nurse.

Are you sure that a weekly per diem. My rate was low in NC as well, but they offered me 125 daily for meals & expenses. Ask them to clarify, thats what I did.

Good idea to get that clarified but that does sound really low! As a rule in Texas, Houston and Dallas Nurses have the best wages. I would expect that an experienced nurse in Houston would make $28-$35 an hour.

I wouldn't work for that, CNA's are making that.

are they paying housing?

Houston has many hospitals that would love to have a travel contract nurse. Both in The Texas Medical Center and in outlying suburbs. However, I think there is great variation between travel companies here. I would recommend checking with several, if you can. If you have already decided what you will do, I would be interested in finding out. Can you post? Feel free to send a private message to me. I have a great deal of info about Houston, if you need it.

I was just offered an equiv of $34 and change through Cross Country in Houston PICU. This is inclusive of the $35 per day meals. In addition to that rate is the private housing and travel allowance. I wouldn't accept what they offered you thats too low...I would keep looking around at other agencies.
