I've been out of nursing school for almost 4 years now. I first took the nclex 6 months after finishing school, without studying, and failed it. After that, life got in the way and I'm still there where I started. I have forgotten everything, content plus skills, and the refresher courses I'm looking at only allow you in if you've been out of workforce for so many years but have a license. I don't know where to start. Please help!

It's hard to give you a very positive response, since the odds really are quite stacked against you. That said, there ARE people, some even on this forum, who say that they've passed the NCLEX even after being out of school for several years. Maybe you can, too?
The only thing that makes sense to me is to find a classroom study setting, such as Kaplan offers. Buy the full package, meaning classroom plus online content; you will need to review all the content plus utilize the Question Test Bank to see how you're doing.
There are many review programs available, and normally I direct people to just the one that they need to focus on....you, however, need to focus on it all.
Saunders and Hurst do quite a bit of content review; Kaplan will help with strategies for passing the test once you KNOW the content.
Good luck.

I agree with RNsRWe and take the Kaplan classroom course plus online access. It comes with a 600 page book, mostly content. Also get the Saunders book for content. Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment by Linda LaCharity. Those books and class will give you a fighting chance at the test. I would study those books for a while before attempting the online Q bank questions and tests.

Well what I think is that you should do a live review to see where you are with your studying. I too finish a few years ago...I finished in 2012... I have taken the nclex-pn in March 2014 but I failed. I have my new att# but life is always in the way so I have rescheduled my retake 3 times already now life is in the way again so I have not scheduled my retake yet. I know it's harder now being out of school but I do at less 50 to 100 questions a day. I am hoping to take soon but I will never give up until I am a nurse in 2014.. Hurst review is very good she goes over everything what to look for to pass...this is mostly videos...Good Luck

Go to YouTube.com and type in Michael linares and David Woodruff. They have a Hugh amount of free videos that should be enough for anybody to pass the NCLEX. Then I would get something like NCLEX 4000, the software disk (or the most current version of what they're offering), and just go through as many questions as I could and read the rationales after each question. If you find a question you have no idea, find a YouTube video that explains the content.
