Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

I'm in the process of completing a triple combo program. I'll earn my certificates for nursing assistant, home health care aid, and patient care tech. Which is only 4 ½ months. I really like the program! After completing this program I would like to attend Toledo School of Practical Nursing or Professional Skills Institute in Ohio. . Has anyone here attended or attend one of these schools? If so what are your likes/dislikes. How soon after starting classes will the clinicals start? What is the cost of the programs? Any and all information is greatly appreciated. Thanks

i think owne's site is www.owens.edu

and PSI just stated the evening program:) so instead of 48wks i think the site says 72 wks here's PSI www.proskills.com

"The Practical Nurse (PN) day program is presented over a period of 48 weeks. This period is divided into four (4) 12-week quarters. The Practical Nurse (PN) evening program is presented over a period of 72 weeks. This period is divided into six (6) 12-week quarters. A total of 1005 clock hours are spent in the classroom, 190 clock hours in lab, and 270 in clinical rotations. The total clock hours the student will receive for this program are 1465."

I had taken my anatomy courses, micro, and a couple humanities courses at Owens as a pre-nursing student. I was planning to apply to the RN program. The word was, the waiting lists for all the health sci programs (esp nursing) could be years! This scared me into studying really hard and applying myself to get straight As in all my pre-reqs. When I applied to the RN program (after completing the courses for it), I made a rash decision to apply for the LPN too, and became interested in the LPN programs in Toledo, due to the fact that I was feeling burned-out and couldn't imagine being on a waiting list for so long after all my hard work. Anyway, I was shocked (and incredibly happy) at the results. In Aug '07 I applied, and I was accepted into the LPN program at Owens for Jan '08 starting class! The courses I'd taken for the RN weren't required, but I did have to take an ATI test over the summer. It was basic math, reading, and critical thinking-type q. It did involve percentages, proportions, etc., and maybe very basic algebra, but the test can be retaken.

Like I said, I'm really happy at Owens. My schedule is, Monday, off. Tues, 10a-2p., Wed clinical 3p-11p (we choose our day and shift from course offerings), Thurs 9a-2p, and Fri 9a-12p. Some people are also taking anatomy, but if you've already taken it, Owens accepts all coursework from other reputable schools (no having to test out (impossible tests) like PSI, etc.).

Don't listen to the negative talk about wait-lists, etc. It is a real problem at many schools, and it's a shame for the people waiting to get into programs, but do your own thing and complete all your own requirements, then apply. You never know why people are on wait-lists, and you might just get right in. This happened to me with the RN program-I was given a seat for Fall '08, but I kind of turned it around on them and declined, due to the LPN completion, and asked for a seat for Jan '09, after my LPN. My Pharmacology and nutrition, all sci and hum will transfer to the RN. All at Owens. See why I'm SO for you checking it out!?

If anyone still needs info. on the No Worker Left Behind program, I'm a witness that Michigan Works does come through with the funding. I am currently in a LPN program at Athena Career Academy paid for by NWLB program in Michigan. I commute from MI to Toledo 4 days a week a 45 min drive, not bad. NWLB also provides me with a gas card for the commute.:loveya: Got to love this program. It covers $ 10,000. you have to finance or put on payment plan

$ 9,500. This school is good at helping you with payment options. Total Cost of their program at present is $ 19,500.

I hope this helps.
