To do the phone interview or not

I applied for a GN program and actually got a call. The woman was very nice and said she will work out a phone interview for me since I live so far. I'm very thankful that she wants to do that but if the end result is better, I am willing to waste my money and time for it. Do you think it matters if you do an interview in person vs phone? I think that the in person interview gives you a higher chance of getting the job. But on the other hand, if you're not good at interviewing then it might be a mess. My hands get cold and clammy.

I've done both, and I much prefer to interview in person. If there's any way possible, I would go in person (JMO).

Best wishes either way! :balloons:

I agree. With a phone interview you don't get the benefit of reading body language ect.... Its really hard to get an idea of how your doing and redirect you if necessary...:) i much prefer in person interviews.

I hope its worth it though. When you have 10 of these to do, it can be expensive

well, if your doing 10 of them, then i would go with doing the phone interviews and perhaps offer to be willing to come in person for a 2nd interview. if 500 people are interviewing for 10 spots that is silly to spend hundreds of dollars to travel there...kwim? but if your competing against 5 for 2 spots its might be worth the expense. i guess part of it is knowing the odds a little.

My hospital routinely does phone interviews as a first screening for people who live far away. Perhaps you could approach it that way -- saying that you'll do the phone interview, but making sure they know that you would be willing to make the trip if they are interested you after that. Suggest that it be step 1 of a 2-step interview process.

If you live far, then do the phone interview. If they want a 2nd interview, go in person. Of course, having a face to associate with the resume ups your chances of getting the job.
