To all German nurses

I am a pre-nursing student in the US looking into going to school in Germany. What are the nursing programs like over there? Are there schools that offer a BSN? Also, if I get my degree in Germany, would I be able to work in the US?

Specializes in intensive care, recovery, anesthetics.

You don't get a degree in Germany, they are still doing 3 year diploma courses at nursing schools who are affiliated with a hospital. Since the system has changed, I would imagine you will be lacking hours for US registration.

I am a german nurse and I wanna work in the States. Believe me it doesn't seem to be similar at all. I have to have my education evaluated by CGFNS which is a pain in the bud. We start getting BSN courses but there are barely positions out there. So if you are American and you wanna work in the US you should get your degree in the US.

Thank you for the advice. If I get my BSN in the US would I be able to get jobs in Germany? Most likely I would be living in Berlin.

Are you looking for work as a military spouse? Are you fluent in written and spoken German?

No, I am not looking for work as a military spouse. My fiancee lives in Germany and I wanted to study near her. And I am currently working on becoming fluent.

It will take you years to become fluent in German, but you have a lot of time. I see that you're very young and you have a lot of time to take German courses and practice it so you can become fluent. Get college credit for the German courses while you're taking your nursing courses. Good Luck
