To Filipino Nurses in NEW ZEALAND? Have questions please..

Good day!

I am considering trying my luck as a nurse in New Zealand.

Can anyone here help me and tell me what to expect in the 2-3months competency assessment? Is it really like attending formal school where you have lectures, exams, reports? Anyone ever failed that??

How long does it take to get a working visa after registering with NCNZ, provided of course one passed the assessment? How long does it take to get permanent residency?

How do I find a good consulting agency that can help me with the processing? Or dont I need one anymore?

I also would appreciate it if Filipino Nurses can share their experiences in NZ. Was the transition hard? How do you like the weather?

Any practical tips about starting my application to work as a nurse there besides looking at the NCNZ website?

Thanks a lot in advance!

bonsai,

i sent you a PM. hope the info helps

wats the name of the consulting firm that u asked??the competence assessment program is lyk going back to school..u'll have assignments, reports to do to get a passing mark..aside from the theory class, there is also a clinical duty...i would lyk to share more info to u but dont know ur email..

its alright if u want to go through with the help of a consultation firm..the processing would be more easier..if u have the money,,then go for it...

Hi! I was going to PM or email you, but you dont have contact info...can you pls email or PM me, so I can tell you the agency I talked with? I also would like to know more about the Competency assessment. Thanks!!!

I am interested in working in newzealand. I already passed the NLCEX exam, however due to the length of processing for US greencard, I am opting to work in new zealand.

I went to a certain agency, they require me to pay P 180,000 for placement fee and 6000$ for competency enrollment in New Zealand. Is this reasonable? Hope somebody can help me.

Hi! Can you PM me your agency? The placement is lower than what mine quoted. But the fee for Competency Assessment is a bit high. I think that amount would cover 3 months assessment training already, if they find that you lack a little more skill and knowledge.

Thanks!!

to nalene and bonsai,

maybe i could help you by giving you some tips regarding(application process, schools, visa steps, and expenses) for the competency program for nz. my wife is currently working on her visa for the compentency program at waiariki tech in rotorua that will start on june 5. if you have the time and money you can do all the paper works by yourself. no need for an agency. email me or send me a pm. thanks and have a nice day

Yes, this is unreasonable because if you have to pay for the competency enrollment then you dont have to go to them and pay the 180,000 pesos. Just do it yourself. Research on how to proceed and save the 180,000 pesos. That makes sense, isnt it?

oh my god! you can do this on your own you know! by reading and doing your research on how to proceed. you dont need the agency to apply to any university for the bridging program. once you completed the bridging program successfully you will have the license and apply wherever you want without the agency taking some amount from your salaries.

Since you're an NCLEX passer (esp. if you have a current US license), the Nursing Council might assess your qualifications differently (they might even waive the completion of competency programme for you ).

You can inquire about registration and download forms here www.nursingcouncil.org.nz/reg.html for assessment. I believe that you can apply directly to hospitals once you have the license. A job offer and license are required for the work permit/visa.

lavalin is right. You can process papers to be assessed by the New Zealand Board of Nursing, send it to them and save that 180,000 placement fee. That agency is going to do the same procedure anyway . Your a Nurse, I guess you can do the legwork. Goodluck

Is there any guarantee that you can find a job easily after you finish the competency assessment program? If so, how long will it take to process your working visa? Thank you for your help!=)

hello, i also am thinking of new zealand.. care to pm me about it too? I inquired at a consultancy firm here in PI but the fees are certainly off the roof. Can you tell me how to apply by myself too? good luck to your wife!

hey you guys are so great! I never thought these much people can dare to apply in New Zealand by themselves!

In one consultancy firm I inquired, I almost choked when I saw how much placement fee it would cost me. I figured, why cant I do it by myself? P180,000 is no joke. Only If I can do it right, I can successfully make it. I am a June 2006 passer and with all the desperation and depression I felt these past few months, I felt like this is the time to break free from it.

Though NZ doesnt require a retake, I will still take the Dec 2007 boards to erase the stigma. Plaese help out a colleague here!

What are the keypoint steps to take, tips to go to NZ as nurse *the kind wherein you cant find in a website-- just the experiences you have while processing. You can pm me anytime. Thanks a whole lot!:trout:
