Ladies and Gentleman, I need your expertise.
I know Excelsior puts out some great nurses! I hear great things about the program, and how it was a great way to become an RN on your own time.
Then I hear that some hospitals won't hire you as an RN-- only because you're an Excelsior grad. Why is this? If you go from LVN to RN, you get SO much clinical experience in school-- and if you work in a hospital you get even more.
I'm wanting to go the Excelsior route, but fear not being able to get a job because of closed-minded individuals.
Also, I know some states won't accept Excelsior grads, even after you're licensed. What if you were to graduate from Excelsior, practice for say two years as an RN-- will they still not accept you.
Guys and gals-- I need some help here. Please give me words of wisdom. "m hitting a brick wall! :banghead:

It's not an issue here. I'm in rural NY, and both NY and VT love Excelsior grads, esp in those areas with no schools nearby.

Daveuproar, my father is close friends with a HR nurse at Herman Memorial in Houston who told me that Excelsior or online school is "the way to go". She told me that the facility does not have any problem hiring online grads as long as the school is accredited.
I plan to move to Houston in a few years so I had to make sure. Now if you plan to move to CA with EC, there will be an issue. I know ISU is not accepted in NY. I have no intentions of ever living in CA because housing is ridiculous there. I might as well stay here in NY. So think about where you plan to work and just jump on the band wagon. If you can't sit in the classroom and RN schools are hard to get into check out http://www.excelsior.edu.
