To Enroll or Not to Enroll (MedTech)?

Published

Hello, all,

My girlfriend, 35, is considering enrolling in MedTech to become a Medical Assistant. She has a bachelor's degree from a university in Thailand, but all the credits are beyond the 10-year window and no longer transfer, so she has to start over.

We realize a degree from an actual university would be preferable, but given the time constraints (two full years at a Uni vs 9-15 months at MT; and we'd like to have children soon), we're seriously considering MedTech.

However, I've read quite a few negative reviews online, and I've also heard that many places won't hire students from MedTech. I went with her to talk with one of their "advisors" and came away far from impressed; however, I'm new to the whole nursing program. Would we be making a mistake going ahead with the MedTech program?

Thank you so much for any help!

If her goal is to become a nurse, then it would be wise of her to pursue a nursing program that has a high pass percentage on the NCLEX. There are plenty of accelerated nursing programs that take 15 to 18 months if you pursue a daytime program.

Specializes in ER/Tele, Med-Surg, Faculty, Urgent Care.

Medical assistant is not part of nursing profession. Is this a for profit school? How much is the cost?

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

I would suggest you or her look up MA jobs in your area vs. nursing (RN/LVN). There are generally more nursing jobs vs. MA jobs.
