TNPAP and TN Board of NSG

Published

I have observed a Board of Nsg trial and I feel that injustice is going on. Someone I know was seen by 2 TNPAP evaluators and both state that there is NO evidence of an alcohol or drug problem, but because the medical industry has a higher incidence of drug and alcohol abuse they recommend placement with TNPAP. Now if this the way our country works, then people living in government housing where crimes are committed more often, I guess we should place everyone living there on probation and let them check in daily and have drug testing 15 or so times a year (oh, yeah forgot, they will have to pay for it out their own pockets). Not to mention part of our license fees go to TNPAP. I feel TNPAP can be a valuable asset, but when this is the type of thing happening over and over, the nurses best interest is not being represented. This has the markings/makings of another way to make money. Just like when you are ACLS certified, why should you have to have a separate BLS certification (money is the answer).

The BON is not there to represent the best interest of the nurse. They're there to protect the public.

That's crap but it seems to happen all over. I've heard through cadeuceous folks about nurses being sent by our monitoring program (va) to be evaluated by a therapist. The therapist then reports back stating that this individual does not need intensive therapy and the case managers say "well we want you to go to therapy anyway". Why send the nurse to the expert in the first place if they're just going to make up their own minds anyway?

Off topic but in my health care professionals group a PA is transferring his license and monitoring to TN. he told us that in TN those under the board of medicine are monitored for 5 years and those under the BON are monitored FOR LIFE. Someone please tell me he's full of it and doesn't know what he's talking about. While I'm grateful for our monitoring program given the alternative of losing our license, I don't think I could do this for the rest of my career.

the specific board of nursing sets standards, i have never seen "for life" anywhere or anytime 4+decades as nurse here :)
