TNCC -------How Hard Is It

Published

Hi,

Will be taking the TNCC at the end of next month. Was wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what i'll be up against/what to expect.

Ive done a search and have read that its not to hard or its hard and intense and a good class and so forth. Im more interested in the course breakdown. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Thanks for your answers and replies.

I took TNCC, the person I took the class with isn't very conventional so there wasn't a set pattern. One thing I reccomend for you is to recieve the book ahead of the class and begin skimming the chapters so that you have an idea of what they are talking about. There are tons of slides that you have to view in the class and the teacher usually explains them and then there are senarios you have to compelte as your test as well as a 50 question multiple choice test.

I thought it was alot of fun and a great learning experience. Go thru the book and learn the "alphabet" and what it means and what to do.

It was fun to practice placing each other on backboards and head blocks and doing the "hands on" things.

Good luck!

I thought TNCC was one of the best classes I could have taken to enable me to be a competent RN. Pay great attention to the nursing process and work on your skills for a head to toe assessment and you will do great. Get your book early if you can and learn the ABCDEFGHI modes of assessment.

Enjoy the class!

I agree with the others that TNCC was a great class, in fact it was one of my favorites. Get your book ahead of time and study. The "hands on" info was really fun. At the end of my class there was a "disaster" in which you were given 30 minutes one-on-one with one of the instructors to go through everything that you learned (take your time and think ABCDEFGHI), and always remeber the simple things like dtap, type and cross, pre op abx, splinting, etc.

Know your full assesment and review the book, otherwise it is a breeze

I didn't find TNCC to be difficult at all. Its just kinda a lesson in how to prioritze the things that you do anyway. I did not read the book before the first day of class, but I did skim the information given on the first day so that I was ready on the second day for testing.
