Title RN/LVN

Nurses Professionalism

I have both an LVN and RN license. I worked so hard to obtain that LVN license and still want to u the title if appropriate. I would like some feed back on this.

I have seen some people write their names like this:

(Name), MSN,RN,LVN or (Name), MSN, RN-LVN

Why would you maintain a lower license?

For employment purposes. There are times when a person can't get a job with their "higher" license and they may want to apply for a "lower" licensed position. If the employer demands the appropriate license, they can apply with that license. The example I posted before comes to mind. I applied to a CNA position in a hospital. My application was rejected because I presented my nursing license instead of a CNA certificate. If my state had allowed licensed nurses to retain their CNA certificates, I would have had a chance to get the job.

Yeah, I'm not sure that's actually kosher ... I used to be a CNA, I'm now an RN, should I use both titles ?? Of course NOT...

RN supersedes a CNA, and also your LVN...
