tired and discouraged pre- nursing

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

hello everyone,

i need some help, i am 40 and last year i decided to go to school to become an RN. I work full time and this is not easy. I am in my sophomore year and i just started my chemistry. I am not doing well and i am sure i am going to have to take it again. I am currently at a 2.3 overall GPA and i know that if i dont raise it then i will have a hard time getting into a good RN program I am currently at Georgia State University. Can anybody offer me any advice? thank you

There is a dvd by mathtutordvd.com that maybe very helpful to you. I used the one for basic math to algebra and it was helpful to me. Plus I was able to borrow it from the library. I have not viewed the one for Chemistry but I did get that also.

Specializes in LTC/Rehab.

I'm going to GSU for Fall 2011 to finish my prerequisites so I can try to enter their Spring 2012 Traditional Program. I'm sort of nervous about the difficulty of the classes Im going to take:Micro, A&P II, and Chem II since Im not used to big class environments.

Dont give up on your dream! GSU is notoriously hard to get into and even though Im applying there, I know its a reach school. I pray and know you will get in somewhere. Some schools look for more than a GPA(like Kennesaw's interview process). Have you thought of volunteering or working as a nurse aide to gain some experience?

Best wishes!

Don't be discouraged, we have all been there. I too will be venturing back into school in hopes of getting a nursing degree. I was accepted to WSU Nursing school for their accelerated BSN program I got a C- in one of my courses and was not able to continue because that is not a passing grade. I have now decided to attend a community college because I can not afford the expense at a University. Anyway, I would suggest taking your pre-req's at a community college because the cost will not be as great, try to get in a study group. Also, I use to record the lectures and listen to them after class, That would help me to remember some of the important facts. Anything worth having is worth working at it. Dont give up keep trying!

thank you so much. i will not give up, and i will take only 2 classes next semester. I have been taking 3 every semester to try to make it quick but its hurting me. thanks

wow, thank you, i just got an extra boost. I have heard of Gordon and will check out their application process. thank you everyone for your help and support.

I haven't heard any of you mention Georgia highlands. Check them out. They have a worksheets you complete and they take the highest 120ish scores. If you have decent grades in math engl and sciences you will get in. I just graduated. Getting in is semi-competitive. The program itself is hard as crap, but I felt well prepared for nclex and passed first time. Seriously, I had two c's on my worksheet...consider it!
