Tired of Bedside Nursing

Published

What does a nurse do when she is tired of Bedside Nursing? I am ready to step away from the bedside. I am tired of being constantly on edge that I could make a mistake or forget some charting. I love the people I work with and have tried various units and even changed hospital systems. But I'm still always dealing with that feeling of stress in the pit of my stomach. I have been offered a school nurse position, but am worried about trading one stress for another. Help! Suggestions?

There's a "school nurse" section of the site that gets rather lively. Here's the link if you want to check it out:

I am with you! Even back in nursing school, I've already decided that bedside nursing isn't for me. Now that I am officially a nurse and have been on the job for 7 months, I still maintain my decision that I will get out of bedside someday (or soon if possible). Wound care is one of my options and the other is going back to school to obtain my masters in order to become an NP. Home health, outpatient surgery, PACU, doctor's office, school nursing sound like good alternatives too! Good luck!
