Just offered the position
Hi all! I have just been offered the position of school nurse at an elementary in Texas. About 800 K-5 students. I have never subbed or have an experience as a school nurse beyond the 3 days during nursing school. I really needed to get away from bedside nursing. I do have a few questions. 1. How do I know if I am getting fair pay? 2. Where can I get some training for things like concussion/ dabetic / epi-pen use? 3. Are there tips for dealing with parents? Staff? All comments and suggestions would greatly be welcomed!

Tired of Bedside Nursing
What does a nurse do when she is tired of Bedside Nursing? I am ready to step away from the bedside. I am tired of being constantly on edge that I could make a mistake or forget some charting. I love the people I work with and have tried various units and even changed hospital systems. But I'm still always dealing with that feeling of stress in the pit of my stomach. I have been offered a school nurse position, but am worried about trading one stress for another. Help! Suggestions?

Repercussion/Retaliation by Director possible?
There is no HR involvement. This was education assigned by the director for a write-up.

Repercussion/Retaliation by Director possible?
The nurse is actually moving to a new hospital system.

Repercussion/Retaliation by Director possible?
I am wondering if anyone can answer a question. If a nurse has been written up by a director which results in mandatory education to be completed on-the-job, is this legally binding? If said nurse is offered another position meanwhile, does the director have any power to mandate repercussions or keep the nurse from leaving?

Suspended for a Medication Error
I've only been a nurse for 6 yrs. At the end of my second year I made an IV medication error. My stomach still feels queasy when I think back about that moment. I was not suspended, but did meet with a peer review board. I too am hyper aware still when doing any medications IV or otherwise. Thank you so much for your story which made me feel much more "normal"!!

Tips for a Future CNA! :)
:uhoh3:I worked as a CNA before going to nursing school. My best piece of advice is organization! If you can get into a good routine, things will flow more smoothly! You will have nurses who expect you to do everything alone, and you'll have some nurses who will help. If patients yell, just apologize, work quickly and get out of there! Good luck!!!

Passing the ATI before taking Nclex?
I was told today that we are required to take an exit ATI prior to graduating May 5th. They said depending upon how we do, we will find out when we can schedule our Nclex exam. Has anyone ever heard that the better you do on the ATI, the sooner you get to set your test date? This seems crazy to me!!

finally all is set to apply to RN program, worried to death..
I'm a second year RN student. But I really enjoy all of my instructors!! Yes, they expect a lot from us, and yes we have lost a few along the way. But 75% or more, are still with us. I hate to hear those kinds of stories though, nursing school is hard enough without the instructors riding on a power trip. I actually started in a different program, with those type of instructors. But a move forced me to reapply at another school, with wonderful instructors and a higher NCLEX pass rate!! The best advice I was given, aside from "keep up with the readings", was to take as many practice tests as you can. They are everywhere. You can buy books, study guides, get them from the library, find them online... Everywhere. Practice, practice, practice!
