Tips/advice for things to include in resignition letter?

I got word today that I got a new job. Now...to write my letter of resignation. The job I am leaving is my 1st nursing position (2yrs.). I am leaving for a bigger hospital, same dept., higher acquity, more options.

How do I write, or what should I include in the letter. I do NOT want to burn any bridges. Advice???????

Dear Ms. Manager,

I am writing to submit my resignation, effective May 1, 2007. I thank you for the opportunity to have learned the care of med-surg patients in a progressive and supportive environment.

Sincerely,

Nancy Nurse

It is not helpful to include any additional information (none of their business), nor to air any grievances in a letter of resignation (makes you look bad). Keep it short. sweet, and pleasant.

Good luck on your new job!

Agree with above, keep it short and sweet. If it was a supportive and nurturing environment, can't hurt to include that so the powers that be know that they have a good team.

I agree. You might be asked by your supervisor or HR to elaborate, but I would still keep it neutral. You never know who you might want to be on your side in the future.

Good experience or bad, I've always thanked (them) for allowing me to be part of their team.

Good luck at your new job!:balloons:
