Hi all! I was wondering who will be applying to TCC in Portsmouth for Spring 2020 admit. Wondering what you got on the HESI as well as if you finished any pre reqs/co reqs and GPA with those. Thanks and good luck!

I'm going to be applying for Spring 2020 as well. (SUPER Late application turn in) I've taken every pre/co-requisite excluding A+P 2 and Micro which I will be taking on the Virginia Beach campus this fall along with chemistry. If anyone's looking for a study buddy for either of those classes, I'm always game. I got a 90.86 on the HESI which I just took today. I'm so glad that's done!
I'm hoping to apply for the concurrent degree program with ODU so that I can have a Bachelor's degree in nursing by the end of it all. I noticed that chemistry was one of the ODU requirements and jumped on that as quickly as I could. Does anyone know anything more about the concurrent enrollment program? I noticed that there's another program with University of Phoenix as well.
Good luck to all!
I would love your tips for the HESI!! And congrats that’s an awesome score! And to my knowledge you can start the concurrent enrollment after 1 semester in the program, but Sentara pays the same for ADN and BSN and offers tuition reimbursement for the contractual 5 years after hire BSN requirement
I have Emily Wilson Tu-Thur @11:00 and lab with Madhuri Parasa Tuesdays. I also have Micro with Dale Tue-Thur @5:50 and lab with Madhuri Parasa on Thursdays.
I will be in that science building almost every day of the week between classes and should have ample time to study, but I'm sure I could use all the help I could get.
@Healthynewnew it looks like we have the same professors!
Demi Thanks. I was very happy with the score. Many have done far better than me, but I cannot complain.
I purchased the Smart Edition HESI A2 study guide. They offered several practice tests. I also found a lot of practice test questions on YouTube as well as some video taped study sessions. I would take those online practice tests, find the areas I was weakest in, then watch Crash Course videos on YouTube about the areas I was struggling in. I would also make sure to read up on those areas in the study guide.
I was terrified that Math was going to be my enemy so I went at that part of the test first. Taking the test you're most fearful of first is probably a good way to go about it because if you wait until last to take that test you will have used up a lot of your brain power already and be super stressed by the time you get there. Save the Personality and Learning Style parts of the test for last. They help bring the tension down some.
Because my Husband is military, I cannot guarantee that I will be working for Sentara. I was also told by a Sentara employee that hospitals are looking to hire more BSN's than ASN's because it increases the hospital's score. Which score, I can't say for certainty, but it was the avice I received from a nurse when I started looking at going back to school in January.
Hi, everybody! I’m Renee, and I submitted my application yesterday and just took the HESI today. I’m still wound up from it and can’t sleep. Lol. There’s nothing like waiting until the last minute. Lol.
I’m in my 40’s and haven’t taken Chemistry or Biology since high school. I got my lowest grade (76) in Biology and an 84 in both Chemistry abd A&P. I had mid to upper 90’s on everything else, but those scores brought me down to an overall 89.4 on the HESI. I’m disappointed in myself, because I’m just not sure it’s good enough to get in. I don’t know if they do it this way at TCC, but I read online that many schools look at scores and assign points for admissions criteria only to some of the individual subjects/sections of the HESI A2 and don’t weigh the overall score as heavily. Does anybody know what TCC does?
FYI for anybody who is applying for a different time and hasn’t taken the HESI yet: I read the above posts about HESI content. My test didn’t have some of the things mentioned, but had other information. Maybe there are different versions to avoid cheating. There was a lot of Science questions that weren’t covered in the HESI A2 prep book.
I’m registered for A&P II and Micro this Fall at VB for now. I suppose there’s nothing left to do but wait now. It looks like we’ll be waiting and stressing together ? Good luck to all of you!

Hopefully you will be just fine! If they go by the class average that shows on your HESI scores, you may be ok. I’m speaking for the both of us.?
Did anyone include letters of reference in their packages? Do we have to do interviews? Should we go and introduce ourselves to councilors? I heard someone say that talking with councilors and letting them know your face helps with getting in, but in the seminar I remember them saying that your calculated score with GPA, HESI, Transcripts, Prerequisites, and co-requisites was all they looked at for your admission.
If talking to them face to face will help please let me know. I will be there tomorrow to say Hello. I’m hoping with everything that my all A’s, perfect attendance and all my co-req’s will be enough. Unfortunately with my 79 on the HESI I’m not sure that will be. I’m a horrible test taker but if they look at everything thing else and my near perfect in the critical thinking part of the HESI ( if they look at that) that maybe, just maybe I have a shot? ??♀️ All I can say is best of luck to us all. ?

I'm taking AP2 on VB campus as well. Will be doing the evening classes with Jennifer Schrimer(not sure I spelled it correctly)for both lab and lecture. You did really well on the HESI. I will also be taking PHI 226 on VB campus. Hopefully these classes will keep my mind off of wondering if I got in or not.
