Tidewater Community College Question!

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi there!

I have been lurking this site for quite some time now and you all truly seem to be experts- such great help! Is anyone here applying to Tidewater CC in Portsmouth, or is anyone in the program? I am looking for some help. I will have two in progress courses by the time I apply (child psych and anat/phys 2) and want to know how much this is likely to lower my chances of getting in.

Has anyone else applied with unfinished courses? Has anyone GOTTEN IN with unfinished courses? I'll have about a 3.5 and hoping to get a 90% on HESI.

Appreciate the help!!

I'm in my second course in the program now and we do have a few students who still need prereqs done such as micro or philosophy. However, I will say it is difficult to complete a science prereq during the program if u don't have it completed before you start. The first course is VERY time consuming being that it's 6 credits. But good luck to you; if u have any more questions just let me know! :)

Ah Eyvis I recognize you from all the forums I've been creeping! Haha. I would have A&P 2 and Child Psych left. I just didn't know it if was likely at all for people to have more than one pre-req unfinished. I'm new to the area in August and would love love love to start the program, but am resigning to the fact that I may just have to be patient. My fingers are very crossed!

Oh! And both of these courses will be "in progress" because I'm taking them the fall before I'd start the program, so I wouldn't be doing them in conjunction with the program at all. I'm not sure if "in progress" makes a difference on the app or not! Thanks!

Well I say go for it!! If you know for sure you will pass those courses, then apply! You can always list on your app that those courses are in progress. Plus, if you've completed your hesi and received a good score, that's a plus too. Besides, if whatever reason you don't make it in you can always reapply using your same hesi score. And remember, it all depends on the applicant pool so give it a shot! You never know!

Thanks, I will! I just didn't want to look a fool for not having these two classes done upon applying. I understand that people may apply with one class left but I'm sure two is pushing it! I'll just hope that a strong HESI score makes the difference.

Hey girl- I saw from another thread you were considering doing the concurrent program with ODU. Are you still planning on doing that?! I'm definitely looking into it.

Yes! I'm actually doing the program now along with 2 other classmates. The rest of them plan to start this fall. I actually applied before I even knew I was chosen as an alternate so I pretty much had to step out on faith and apply just in case I got in the program. The NUR 401 at odu is the first course u take and it's a piece of cake. The material doesn't pick up until the last 8 weeks of the course where they will require u to write a few papers and start working on your portfolio. If you plan on starting in the fall, I suggest u apply now as deadline is approaching soon. However before u start the program, ALL prereqs need to be completed before the start of the program. If u need more info email Janice Hawkins, she's really quick in replying and helpful. Also, financial aid does not cover ODUs concurrent program so get prepared to pay out of pocket, loans, scholarships, or if you're using the GI Bill and see if that will cover it!

I mentioned this on the other Tidewater 2015 thread, but I got in with Ethics in progress. I also wouldn't have had child psych done either, but I CLEP'd it just before applying. I highly recommend that CLEP exam.
