Tidewater Community College Nursing Fall 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Anyone out there applying to the fall 2019 program? Today’s the first day to apply and I feel like I’m overly excited to submit my application lol. The only pre-req I haven’t taken is Bio 142 & the math placement test.

Is anyone planning on applying to Sentara? I want to apply if I don’t get into TCC since I think registration open until June or July.

I'm applying to Sentara once I finish Chemistry this semester. Just went to their open house this past weekend and they have a really nice program. I wish it started this upcoming Fall instead of Spring 2020

congrats how exciting! I wanted to apply to ODU but They require for me to take a foreign language and idk about that.

I have an Associate of science degree that I took at TCC, so I was exempt from all lower level prerequisites courses. I didn't have to take any foreign language. If I decide on going there I will only have to take option D, which is two 300 level classes this summer.

The cut off time for sentara application is June 15. They have a very good program and it's not as expensive compared to ECPI. I was planning on applying to them, but now that I got accepted to Odu, I will just wait for TCC to reply.

I agree the start date is a bit far off, but they have a lot of prerequisites classes to complete before the start of the program. I think the reason why they did this is to give students enough time to complete all their prerequisites classes

That's understandable! It is unfortunate for those who already have their degree though (I do). After retaking Chem this semester I'll have all of their prereqs done since I took care of most of them at my last school.

Has anyone thought about or considered becoming a patient care tech to prepare for nursing?

I definitely want to apply to sentara if I don’t make it into tcc. I’m actually gonna do their nursing care partner program this summer.

I’m gonna do the nursing care partner at sentara this summer! I’m trying to research if it’s the equivalent of being a patient care tech.

Say what?? It is the same! Sentara calls that job a nursing care partner but other facilities like Bon Secours calls it patient care tech. I'm getting ready to apply for the summer program as well. I figure if I get into TCC I can just work prn as a tech while in school. Or, work full time until Sentara's program starts in January if they accept me

@sc_1992 do you already have a degree or any health care experience?

Oh wow we’re definitely in the same boat! Lol. I want to work part time while I’m in school and want to just gain experience overall. As of right now I have zero healthcare experience. I’m coming up on the end of my navy contract and want to do something I’m actually passionate about (nursing!)

Yes we are! Lol, that's pretty cool actually. And good for you pursuing something that you truly want! I work as a rehab tech in physical therapy which is healthcare but not true patient care. I figure going through that PCT program won't hurt me at all. The only negative I saw is that it doesn't have night classes like the 16 week courses do so working at the same time might be tough
