Hi. I've been steady busy, but not too crazed. lots of little task-y things to follow up, finish up. Had an interesting convo with my manager, trying to clarify what our work around the refugees (technically they are parolees meaning they can stay for 2 years and then be reassessed). Crazy co-worker has one idea, very nice OCD nurse has another, neither of which match what the manager thinks. Clear as mud. And the parolees are not working with any relief agency that can help guide them through the system.
Its raining today, the weather forecast is for another "atmospheric river" to come in for a few days. The seems better than the intense heat forecast for the southwest!
Not looking forward to that heat, gotta admit. Our forecast shows temps in the 90s all next week, with Sunday forecast at 99. My sister is in San Antonio, where they just had a record high for the date of 101.
The eyes have been given an A-OK for another year. The doctor was going to release me altogether, but then remembered that I'd had the detached retina so wants to monitor.
J22, hope you get clarification for your group of refugees/parolees/immigrants.
Our hospital is developing an orientation for new employees and I've been asked what I want to contribute. And my mind goes blank. Any other time I would have several ideas. From an infection prevention perspective, maybe a quick intro to isolation protocols and a reminder that the best prevention is handwashing. From a risk management perspective, there's always HIPAA. We have a new housekeeper who was an EMT student and seems to think she can hang out behind the nurses' station. I wasn't especially nice the other day when she was looking over a nurse's shoulder at Epic and talking about the patient that was coming from the ER. And maybe I could do the "safety is everyone's responsibility" and remind people to look and observe and report anything they feel is unsafe. Oh, and then there's the matter of incident reports.
If anyone has any great ideas, please share.
Gma and Twin A are both coughing and feeling bad. Gma is seeing her doctor tomorrow. Twin A is missing work. Meanwhile, someone needs to buy cat food and Depends, pick up med refills for the dog,
Annie, I love your first 3 ideas. I think many of us get lackadaisical about such things as hand hygiene and HIPAA and it definitely needs to be a part of the facility culture. Has your latest state or JC inspection flagged anything of concern? Falls, CLABSIs? Anything about patient satisfaction scores (I hate that topic, but I know its important for reimbursement)?
Here I am posting too late again...
Last night the only good thing that happened was the Braves won 13-2.
Hubby was being a *(R(%$#@$* last night. He asked me a question, which I answered. Then two minutes later he asked me again, and I answered. Then within 3 minutes he asked me again (!) at which point I got a little irritated and answered with a sharp YES! Whereupon he got mad and said something about my 'stinkin'***-Yankee-attitude." HUH! And today, he asked me for a fifth time about the computer I sent back to the manufacturer's a couple of days ago. On that day he had asked me about it 4 times in the space of 12 hours, so I was a little surprised that he brought that up again today! Then he got mad because I decided to go to bed early. Good Grief. I know it was because he'd been drinking. I thought that med he was put on was supposed to either 'take away' the taste for, or the urge to drink. The only thing I got by way of an apology wasn't an apology, but he told me today -out of the blue - that his doc had cut the dose of that med in half because he wanted hubby to 'detox' very gradually. So apparently there's nothing helping him to stop drinking. w00t.
Today he's acted like nothing had happened, but at least he didn't drink so much that it brought forth his 'sorry-***-Southern-redneck attitude' ?.(so there!)
Nannie is still practically glued in the recliner, addicted to baseball games she doesn't understand. I told you that during the past week she has been c/o being dizzy when she puts her legs down and sits up. It goes away when hubby asks her if we need to call the ambulance. When she puts her wrap around her shoulders before sitting down, she toddles and totters, and hubby will say, "Put that on once you sit down. You're so unsteady you might fall." and she said 'NO I WON'T!' ... as she unsteadily sat down abruptly on the chair.
So that's my grousing for the day. You're welcome.
Stars, while it doesn't seem suspicious that the doc would want him to detox gradually, it does seem suspicious that the doc told him after prescribing a dose to cut it in half. Did the doctor call him and change his mind? Do you think he's even taking the medication? It really sounds like he doesn't want to quit.
My last relationship was ruined by drinking and addiction/alcoholism is in my family. Plus I've had issues my self (but over 25 years sober!). So I know that we are masters at lying.
Sorry though he's being so difficult for you.

Wasn't bad at work despite having to cut lunch short due to a meeting. Had time at the end of the day to help others a bit. Went grocery shopping, thankfully the rain had stopped
Should be another fairly quiet day here, at least I hope so
Think it's going to be in the 70s today, rain should hold off
