I work one day a week, and of course it's a huge difference from full time. I do pick up a second day once in a while as a favor to various coworkers. I think being able to choose my schedule makes an even bigger difference than working less does. The consistency is great.
I also get to choose the holidays I work, and I can take time off without asking for it and being refused. My reasons for going PRN are my kids, and the fact that benefits are provided through my husband's employer.
I work at night, so there's still some "off" days that surround the day I work.

I'm excited that I went PRN at the hospital I currently work at. I have been here a while & was actually a floater anyway so the prospect of floating is not a big deal. Im going PRN because my husband & I decided to move toward me staying home more (something I've always wanted; I'm a homemaker at heart but we also are trying to pay off house / student loans at a very accelerated rate). Ill make about the same working 2 days as I do working 3 now & it'll be days instead of nights. Im not super worried about being called off due to my hospital always being understaffed. Right now I work 3 days/wk & still get asked at least once a week to pick up extra. To those who PRN & manage to work 2 days instead of 3, what's it like? Do you feel as exhausted throughout the week still or does that 1 less day really make a difference at all? & while we're at it, why did you choose PRN to begin with?
