Those who have left bedside nursing (like me...)

Published

Just curious.

For those who have left bedside nursing:

Where did you go?

What do you do now?

Do you enjoy it?

Do you miss bedside care?

Do you feel like a "real nurse" or have been told you are not a "real nurse"?

I left bedside nursing to do concurrent review for an insurance company.

I miss some aspects of bedside nursing, but just couldn't take the craziness any more. I needed to be able to go to work regular hours and come home and still have time for my family.

Do I enjoy it? Yes. Only when I actually started doing the work did I realize how important it was.

Am I a real nurse? Yes. Only someone with a strong clinical background can do my job.

Will I go back to the bedside? Only if some miracle happens that gives me back the body and energy of a 19-year-old!

I went into Informatics, love it. don't miss the bedside nursing.

as for not being a real nurse.... 2 days ago our new urgent care opened, and they needed someone to play a fake patient. I set up to have one of our staff get pick up their kid from Daycare, and be the patient. (just so we didn't have HIPPA issues) but they were going to use the real MD and Nursing staff. as always happens, they got slammed with real patients, the nurse were busy, and so they made me step into the room to settle the patient. (I was in nursing scrubs) So I got a lot of flack from my buddies about that when it hit the TV!

She's not a real nurse....but she plays one on TV! :nurse:
