Those who were not accepted into school this year.

For those of you who applied but did not get accepted into nursing school this year, what are you doing in the interim to improve your application and make yourself a stronger candidate?

I applied to MHCC, Clackamas CC and PCC. I was not invited for an interview at MHCC. However, I had interviews at CCC and PCC. I was placed on Alternate lists for both programs and invited for orientation too. I still have hope. Waiting till next year to apply again would really be a disappointment. But if it happens, it's life..

If I would have to apply again, I would take CNA classes and work in retirement homes. I currently work as a caregiver but that doesn't earn me enough points in the application. I'll also try to get my associates for prior degree points.

Sorry, if I'm rambling and not making much sense. My thoughts are all over the place today.

I got B's in all my anatomy classes last year. So I retook the whole series this year. If I don't get in I'll already have retaken all my courses for a higher grade. I already have work experience and all pre-reqs. At this point, I'm just trying to figure out what I'll do if I am not offered a spot off the alternate list. Im currently working as a caregiver, but only 12-24 hrs a week. (1-2 twelve hr shifts). Im considering enrolling at PSU so I can knock out my upper divisions, but really thats all I have left to do, 16 credits of 300 level + classes. I have stats and micro knocked out. I may just take the year to work part time and enjoy some time with my kids, but worried about taking time away from school. Don't know what to do. :(

I didn't even get to turn in an application this year -- when I moved here from California, Rogue Community College transferred a lot of my classes as other classes or electives, my Biology from CA transferred as Bio 101 instead of Bio 211; I managed to talk to the science chair at their Grants Pass campus (Jim Van Brundt, awesome instructor) and he let me take the A&P and Microbio series, but I still couldn't apply despite the fact I got A's in 231-234.

Taking 211 this summer, also retaking psychology and human development. I got B's in those and the school I transferred from didn't give +'s so they're weighing me down pretty good. If I get A's in those, my pre-req GPA should be around a 3.7, but I have other points from completion of Micro, chemistry, health care experience (military medic and CNA at the VA), veteran, experience with diverse cultures, so I'm thinking I should be decently competitive.

So this year I was not able to get into a program, I attribute this to the fact that three of my prerequisite courses were in progress at the time the application was due. The courses in progress were research writing, nutrition, and a social science elective. Now that they are all finished my prereq GPA is 3.93, I have also taken microbiology, and have healthcare experience.

This coming fall I am transferring to WOU and will be taking chemistry and some upper division courses that are not required as prerequisites but are required for the bachelors degree.

I am hopeful for this coming year and, if for some reason I am still not accepted, I will be able to continue on towards a bachelors degree and then go at nursing from a different rout.

I'm going to be applying for the Klamath Falls OHSU satellite. The last couple years they had only 40 or so applicants, I talked to the counselor and they said they had 80 applicants for the 2015 class, which they were surprised by. However, the adviser did say that a 3.6 GPA-4.0 is what they were looking at, and that they look at all facets of an application beyond just a GPA so I'm hoping to get in there. It's farther than the Ashland campus for me, but even with 80 applicants for 24 slots, it has a little better odds of acceptance than the Ashland campus.
