Thomas Jefferson university FACT 2010

Has anyone applied yet for the FACT programme for 2010?

You'll take a lot of HESIs - at the end of each rotation, you take a subject-specific HESI (Fundamentals, Cardiac, Maternity, etc). It's not a big deal, 5% of your grade, and I've found them to be good practice. It's not a lot of extra studying, either, because it's the same material you're studying for the course exams (although some folks do find a way to stress out about it). At the end of the year, you take a comprehensive HESI to predict if you'll pass NCLEX or not - you can graduate without passing it, but you can't sit for your state boards without it, so you kind of have to pass it eventually.

Jefferson is also now recommending the i-touch. Is anyone currently using this? Or do you know anyone who is?

Most people get the software installed on their smart phone. It really is kind of useless to carry to devices to clinical, and as long as you can put your phone on "silent" during clinical, you can still use it for Nursing Central. If I had to do it again, I would not get an iTouch or an iPaq. I'd get an iPhone or a Blackberry phone and install it on that.

Jefferson requires the HESI too? I thought only Drexel required that in order to graduate.

Good luck to you, soon-to-be graduates! :yeah:

We take the exit HESI in April. If we don't get an 850 on that HESI, we get to take it again in May. If we don't get an 850 on *that* HESI, we still get to walk at graduation, but the Dean won't sign off on our NCLEX authorization until we do a 6-week remediation (not sure if we get an Incomplete until that remediation is done). Once the 6-week remediation is done, we're done, graduated and OK to take the NCLEX after the Dean signs off. Jefferson does not make you take the HESI over and over until you get a passing score, but they do do make you take it twice and then remediate if need be.

That makes sense. I used to have a smart phone, but I'm not very fond of them so I down graded. I also didn't want to pay extra for web access each month. Therefore, I'm stuck getting a pdd. I ordered the iTouch yesterday. I hope it's a good product.

Hi Everyone!

I've been re-reading this forum over the past year because I plan on applying for FACT 2011 and TJU is my top choice. There's some really great information shared and I was wondering if those of you accepted into FACT 2010 could help me with some questions:

-Does the FACT online application open sometime in September, before the first review period deadline? I've been checking the online application on TJU's website but have yet to find anything for FACT.

- I know this is a common (and probably annoying) question, but does anyone mind sharing their science pre-req GPA? It would give me a sense of my competitive standing (at least for the sciences).

I hope to hear from some of you, thanks!

I'm a current FACTer. Start checking the website around mid-August. They usually release the application anywhere from August 15 to the beginning of September.

I had a 4.0 in my science pre-reqs; don't know if that helps you or not.

Good luck!

Hi everyone,

It has already been so helpful reading thru the posts here... hoping for a little more help if possible.

I had my interview today with Niki (for the FACT program) and am feeling optimistic enough to ask a few questions here. Specifically about the cost and off-setting the cost.

Does anyone know about the RWJF scholarship and how that money is awarded or if it is awarded for the FACT program. or the Dean's awards that are given. Also, has anyone uncovered any less known sources for funding? Or any suggestions how to go thru this process with the least debt possible? I feel like there must be $ around but don't even know where to begin.

I need to get a few duck in a row, regardless of Jeff's decision, and would like to get started on that ASAP!

thanks in advance!!!

JSN announces the RWJ scholarship in August and will invite only FACT students to apply. To be eligible you have to be from a racial/ethnic group that is underrepresented in nursing or come from a disadvantaged background, demonstrate financial need and show academic strength. The award is worth $10,000 and requires you to attend a scholar group once a month. The Dean's Scholarship is automatically awarded to eligible students upon matriculation and is based on academic merit.

Thank you for the feedback. I was accepted to FACT starting this May 2011!! :lol2: so excited but now I will definitely be looking into any help I can get regarding finances.

Has anyone uncovered any private funding they would be willing to share?

Also, I am a single mom and trying to prepare my childcare and really need some idea of the quarterly calendar which I can't seem to find anywhere nor is available from the school yet.

Can any current FACT folks share their calendar, the quarters and breaks mostly.

thanks you!

Jillian
