U.S.A. Pennsylvania

When should I submit the application for Thomas Jefferson 2010 summer FACT program? Is it too early to start application right now?

Niki told me about it at the end of my interview - I'm hoping there will be more information soon . What was it like last year?

Congrats, I loved the program

First we ate. You'll notice there's food at all Jefferson events. LOL! We all sat around/milled around and asked questions like, "What program are you accepted for?". There were a lot of FACT students there, not so many BSN/APW students.

Then we got called in to the auditorium and heard some blah, blah, blah from the administration. But the main event was up on stage, where there was 1 student from each program. Each student gave some tips for surviving and thriving at Jefferson in general. And then in the questions section, they took questions from the audience. I seem to recall the FACTers asking a lot of questions. (Are we all Type A or what??) It was kind of fun to hear the students' perspective.

Then we broke up into programs and trotted around after instructors for a tour of the building. The name of the building escapes me, but it's the one they built only a couple of years ago. Saw the classrooms, looked at the Sim Man and heard him complain that he didn't want to be touched (humorous), etc.

The thing I liked a lot is that there were other students from the programs, other than the ones up on the stage. So I asked every nursing student I could find how s/he liked the program, if the instructors were supportive, etc. I got only positive answers. Now I'm sure there are some students who have beefs with the program, but overall, everyone seemed to think it was a great program. (I've noticed that there's a definite school spirit there. I have doctors who graduated from Jeff many years ago, and still take part in alumni activities.)

Then we went home. The FACTers were literally chasing after poor Niki, peppering her with questions. Did I mention the Type A-ness of FACTers?? LOL

My favorite quote came from a BSN student (the one on stage), when asked how to survive clinicals. She said, "Just show up every day and don't kill anyone." That cracked everyone up, although the instructors might have seen it as a teensy bit less funny than everyone else.

Whew, didn't mean to write a novel!

Congrats, I loved the program

Tay, thanks for stopping by! So good to hear from someone who finished the program. When did you finish? Were you able to get a job fairly quickly (the question on everyone's mind these days!)?
