Hey Everyone,
I applied to Jeffersons FACT 1 year Center City program for May of 2020. I interviewed August 28th and still haven't heard back from them. Anyone else in the same boat?
@VTW2019 hi I'm just reading this thread now, but this was my number one program I wanted to apply to and now I'm having second thoughts based on your comment. Obviously it sounds super disorganized from your testimony but is the quality of the courses taught just as bad? I definitely would like to know more about your experiences if you can provide more info. Thanks in advance

Hey guys, I really posted this comment so that the prospective students would have full transparency before committing. I wish I was able to hear about the program from a student when I was applying. As far as the courses, we take 1 maybe 2 courses each quarter that are helpful in learning to be a nurse. Other courses, such as “professional practice” we take 4 different versions of each quarter, which consists of a lot of busy work that is not helpful to learning a new career in one year. The masters courses are also a lot of just work and do not relate to becoming a registered nurse at all, just take up a lot of time that should be used to study or focus on clinicals. Clinicals are also extremely disorganized, one instructor did not even show up to a groups assigned clinicals last month. Other clinical groups are told days before scheduled that they will no longer be able to go to the site and have to do some sort of make up assignment instead (instead of getting the clinical experience). As there are so many nursing programs at Jefferson across multiple campuses, we get shafted. I have shown up to many clinicals where other students from different nursing programs are already there and we are unable to get the clinical experience because the program overbooks FACT-1 students. They often do not have a place for us to go because of accepting too many students into all of the programs which is very apparent. I have had clinical instructors tell me they have tried to complain about the over scheduling and that administration does not care or attempt to help in any way. Sometimes we do not even have an available lecture hall for our scheduled classes and are put in any open room, meant for half the size of our cohort.
Essentially we take 1 course that is applicable to the clinical side of nursing each quarter and have our clinical experience. These make up less than half of the course load of credits and clinicals are never what the instructors claim. There is an entire other issue regarding ATI that I won’t get into right now, but essentially the school is having us pay an extra $600 out of pocket for a program they do not know how to use. Nursing school is going to be expensive and an investment in your future. I would really explore your options to make sure you won’t spend the next year completely frustrated like most of this years cohort.

Wow I am so sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience. Although this does worry me to hear I was also able to talk to a student who graduated last May. She said wonderful things about the program and how she felt the instructors truly cared to the point where she had their numbers and was able to communicate to them whenever she needed help. She said she learned through her clinicals that many patients were excited to hear that she was a student at Jeff and the program is very respected throughout the city. She also mentioned that there was less busy work and more focus on material she felt she actually needed to know. I think everyones experience is different! But its good to hear both good and bad aspects.

Thank you for you the incite! This is the second time I am hearing a similar story of the disorganization of the FACT 1 program...

I agree, it has been really helpful to hear both sides of things! @bor123 may i ask if the person you talked to is a FACT student or is he/she/they in a different nursing program at TJ?

I obviously can’t speak for the program prior to ours, but I do know that there was a few issues in their program but not nearly as many as ours. They changed A LOT of the program’s structure this year and it does not appear to be benefiting the students. We use an entirely different NCLEX prep program than last year which is actually part of our grades in each course, though the professors were not aware of how to use it until now. The courses are different as well and they admitted 20 more students than last years graduating class without hiring any new professors. I’m guessing that has a huge impact on why this years program is dramatically different.
