This might sound bad but...do I have to disclose my college grades?

Published

I'm getting ready to apply to a local ADN program and I know how competitive it is and GPAs need to be around 3.4. My highschool GPA was a 3.9, but I struggled early in college and I only got a 2.85! Now I don't think this would automatically disqualify me from the nursing program, especially if I ace my pre-reqs, but what If I applied to the program and just never disclosed my college experience and therefore would not have to provide my grades? I know this sounds kinda devious, but is it? Or would I be better off just writting a letter explaining that I'm more than just a GPA and try to make myself a better candidate in other ways like volunteer experience, references, etc (which I plan to do anyway)?

Thanks for any input.

Now, maybe I am being foolish, but I have 2 college degrees, a BA from University of Alabama and a BSN from Georgia College and am currently in the MSN program at University of Phoenix; but I have always been required to submit transcripts to get into any college.

Now with that said. I have never been a scholar. I have worked full time since starting college 25 years ago, and have made B's and C's. I got into nursing school on the first application, and Graduate school on the first application.

Generally grades are important, but only one part of who you are. Be truthful, and you never have to look behind you.

Did you get any D's? You could ask them to be removed from your record if they are older than 5 years old and that would bring up your GPA. Also, any class you take now and earn an A would bring up your GPA. Yeah they compute your GPA from all former college transcripts. You don't have a clean slate with each college unless you don't get your transcripts sent there. Good luck!

I was VERY stupid when I went to college the first time. I got sick of it one day and quit going - did not drop the classes, just quit going to school. My GPA was 0.7!!!! Not too many schools competing to get me to come to their institution, I'll tell you! However, I started to take other classes later on (about 10 years later) and did fine. You can bring your GPA up - it just takes time.
