I am currently studying to take my nclex exam and do about 60-80 practice questions each night on my computer using Saunders CD that came with their book. I usually do pretty good missing one or two here and there. Well, the other night we finally went and got speakers for my computer and i was busy downloading songs and blaring my music. I decided for some strange reason to do some of the questions while I was waiting and I buzzed through 125 questions and got a total of 3 wrong!?!?! For some reason having the distraction of the music made me do EXTREMELY good. Why is that?? Does anyone have an explantion as to why distracting noise can actually help some people do better???
And please be assured that I know I can't take headphones into the testing center. I haven't studied like that since then because I was told we should study in an atmosphere that will be as close to the real test as possible.
It was just amazing to me how much clearer I could think with music playing. Anyone else????

Many nursing students over analyze every question instead of going with their gut instincts. The music distracted you so that you whizzed through the questions choosing the answer that popped out at you, and you didn't sit there beating the question to death.
I always say the key to passing tests in nursing school and the N-CLEX is to be relaxed and go with your gut.
