How has the current recession impacted your job, your place of employment, your outlook, etc.? I'm quite curious. They say that nursing is recession-proof, but is it really? I'm from Michigan and am wondering what the lay of the land is like from nurses all over the country (including here in Michigan).
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hannukah!
I believe many of us saw the beginnings of our economic perils this past summer when census in hospitals were below normal. I know this was true in our area. I had never seen the likes of it before in this area.
It has me so nervous about how bad will it be this coming summer . Our system so relys on season and the snow birds coming to our area.
Im an RN with 9 years medsurg experience and I have been applying since last month looking to relocate either LA suburbs or houston texas. I have filled up numerous application on line but for more than 1 month now i still don't have a solid placement. It looks like many hospitals are holding off or limiting their hiring since census have been running low.
Nothing targeted at nurses so far, knock wood. To tell the truth I'm not letting the whole ecomomy thing get to me. DH and I live very frugally so this isn't a major concern. I've added depressed stocks recently and we are thinking about buying another rental property in the next few months.
Yep, this is the time to pick up some good bargains. it helps to have your financial situation in order, and living well within you means is the best way to do that.....................and there's the bonus of sleeping better at night (or day, depending on your shift).

Over 30 people laid off at one hospital I work at over the last few weeks. LPN's and other staff, no RN's yet. Two other hospitals I work at have low census. The recession has hit here.
