Thinking about switching majors. So discouraged.

Wow, going through this thread has really helped me, I got a 38 on my first Test, and the class average was 45, I was also thinking of throwing in the towel and go running towards Teacher Degree, but then I remembered how much I love healthcare, and now I have decided to kick some serious butt and pass this class, if I can do it with 3 kids, 1 who is on the autism spectrum (My Champion and hero) Then we can all do it. Let's do this girls and show those professors we can rock Micro.

And you are MY hero! Congrats to you for persevering...you are an inspiration. We can all do this together :balloons:

Thank God for this post!! I have not been on here and the last two weeks i have been in the abyss......school speaking.

I dont know what the heck happened....ive been pulling C's in my Human Bio class(pre req for Anatomy and Physio) and ive felt like a big failure. Ready to give up, not even doing my online assignment for English last week. This is not characteristic of me. What is my deal?

I am a A- college student and ive been beating myself up, ready to quit because im not getting 98's or 100's.

Good for you! My son is on the spectrum, too. As you know, it can be challenging at times, but he is my hero too! For what it's worth, I'm here if you need to talk to someone.

Awesome Tiffany! It's nice to see that I am not alone in this, although sometimes it seems like it. How old is your son? Mine is 8 going on 9, he is the most loving son ever, and I use him as my inspiration, because if he can overcome so many obstacles and still do awesome in school, then I can too. He is one of the reasons I am going into nursing, I was even thinking of doing developmental nursing. Thanks for your shoulder, I know I will use it.

\I got my first lecture test back today and I got a C. The test wasn't on the handout he told us to study, but on hypothetical questions about patients. He never gave us sample questions like that, but he said nursing school is like that. Not everything you study will be asked and stuff you don't know will be asked. If that's how it is I don't think I want to do it.

Think of it this way: almost all of the prereqs are weed out courses, to see who has the tenacity to stick it out. I'm in Micro right now myself, and if my teacher was any tighter, he wouldn't be able to sit on the pot! So I feel your pain! Though I'm curious as to why a Micro teacher would ask questions about patients, I'd ask him (or her) what you needed to do to make the grade you wanted.

Whatever you do, don't quit just yet.... We've all had moments where we got so fed up with everything that it seems worth it to just do something else. But if this is your passion, don't let one class get you down... because the harder you have to work for something, the more valuable it is to you, and more meaningful.

No Pinky DO NOT give up. I hated Micro and Pathophys but I got through it and it wasn't easy. Study what you can and if you pass with a C, its okay. You can do it.

I think at some point we all get discouraged. I was to graduate in December but I can't because I failed the BIG pharmacology ATI exam and had to push my leadership and internship class to January. I am trying to find the juice to finish and hopefully I will if I pass these ATI exams.

If you can, start a study group with your other peers and make sure that once you start your nursing classes, get an NCLEX review book and read the chapters that correspond with your theory class. This way, at the end of the game, you'll be prepared to take the comprehensive test and go on to pass NCLEX. Lipincott, Kaplan and Delmar are exceptional for NCLEX review.

Sorry it took me a while to come back and thank everyone. I really appreciate the responses. I'm going to try to stick it out as best as I can. What gives me hope is that I just got back my 3rd micro lab test and I got my 3rd A. I don't know why he makes lecture so difficult. If you didn't get an A, you got a C or failed. No B's. All of the A's are LPN's and they said it was easy because they are used to hearing about patients. I wish he would give practice questions like that instead of throwing us off with half the test being like that. His pretest was nothing like the exam.

However, he does give mini true and false questions in lecture which I get A's on. It should help my grade. All of these stories are inspiring. Thank you so much everyone!! Funny thing happened the day after I posted this. I opened a fortune cookie and it said: "you may be looking for a different career path, but don't take action".

Congrats on the A's! :D Keep up the awesome work! Too funny about the fortune cookie - I'm not normally much for signs, but maybe you got that because you needed to hear it. Hang in there.
