I have seriously been thinking about joining the Air Force as a BSN, but I am afraid of the unknown. The recruiters tell you what you want to hear to try to get you to join, but I need some real answers from those who have been there, done that. I want to know about how it compares with any other regular job. I also want to know about the commitment.
I am on the books and scheduled to attend COT Jan 11, but hoping I get a drop slot in the Oct 10 class. When I was notifed I boarded I also found out where I was to be assigned; my top pick! It has been a very long yr and the most part has been due to the many applicants who have applied to the nursing corp, so one has to possess much patience. The one bit of advice I can give you is to obtain your BSN. If money is the issue the military can help you pay it back with the various programs/bonus payments offered. Don't be like me and take YEARS to do this, if its within you to do go after it. You will not regret it. Lastly the experience you obtain as an active duty nurse is not matcheed anywhere in the civilian sector. Good luck!!
All this information i have been reading from everyone is such a big help! i am currently interested in joining the air force reserve. i have 7 yrs exp, 5 in critical care. i also have my bsn. I am a single mom with two small children. i have a big support system so that wouldnt be an issue. i have yet to talk to a recruiter, figured i would do some research prior to. is anyone out there in, or have been in my position. how likely would it b i get picked, what are requirements for reserves...etc. anyone more info would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Technically, it's impossible to fear something of which you have no knowledge. Perhaps you fear a preconceived idea of the military as a career?

so, how did it go for those of you on here that were thinking about joining the USAF? I was interested, too; I've been working in an ER since February (I am a new RN), thought about doing the same for USAF, but then found out they required a BSN so that stalled me out. I am sad
