Hi, i am thinking of getting my masters degree. any tips on what to expect?

getting a master degree is a good move. but you must be ready for another years. a lot of god school offers masteral program but this good schols usualy requires you that you already have experince in hospital. there are 2 program for masterla the non thesis and the thesis program.

aside from the requirement 'thesis" what are the difference between the two? the status, the level...etc...?

if you're planning to stay in the Phil, then go for it. Phil MAN or Phil MSN is not recognized in the US. you still have to take the major subjects for you to pass their criteria.

of course you can have your master's even without hospital experience.

here's the program:

PROGRAM OF THE STUDY The M.A.(Nursing) degree requires completion of thirty-six(36) units, thirty(30) units of which are credited to academic courses and six (6) units for the thesis. Except for N-241,N-242, & N-243 and some cognates, academic courses generally carry a 3-unit load.

A full-time student enrolls in 12 units of academic work per semester and is given a maximum of five years within which to finish all 36 units of academics and the thesis, including passing the Comprehensive Examinations. The courses are classified as follows:

CORE COURSES. Completion of 12 units (all 4 courses) is required of all master's students.

N-204 Advanced Pathophysiology N-207 Theoretical Foundatoins of Nursing N-298 Sattistical Methods Applied to Nursing N-299 Research Methods of Nursing MAJOR COURSES. The master's student is required to enroll in all the courses (12 units) of one's chosen field of specialization.

what do you mean it is not recognized in the us? how long does it take for an man/msn to finish in the states?

the master's degree in the philippines is not recognized here in the usa, but it will considered as a generic master's degree. depending on what nursing specially you want to get in, that will dictate how many more credits you need to take. for example, you want to be a fnp, aprn, you need a specialty, and more courses for that. which means, you need to have a clinical practice before you even graduate..it is not an easy class, graduate's degree is expensive. and even here in the us, it is advisable that a nurse should have at least 2 years or more of work experience before getting in the msn program. if you want to know more, you can surf the websites for colleges, universities in the usa that offers msn program.
