Thinking about changing from Cardio to Family Care

Published

I work in an office, and work with cardiologist and vascular doctors, been doing this for about 4 yrs now, working from 8 to 4:30 Monday thru Friday, and have the opportunity to change over to Family Care and work Monday thru Thursday from 8 to 6:30pm. Really scared about leaving something I am used to but am really liking the thought of having 3 day weekends every week. Anyone work family care and able to give any tips?

Oh yeah tips... Started thinking about children and my heart stopped. Thank God you work in cardiology, right... Oh wait.

Lol, sorry. I can't stop!!

I can only hypothesize what you should expect, but I'd say work with MA's, lots of injections, vaccine schedules, possible blood draws. You may be doing some phone triage- potentially. There's even a forum for phone triage, I think...

Hmmm lots of rocephin injection- always mix with 1% lido plain.

More kiddos

Uhm... Sorry I wasn't more helpful. Keep looking on AN bc I've seen other similar topics I think.

The kid issue is what is keeping me from changing. I have two of my own, but sorry, I have worked in long term care, rehabilitation and now cardio since being a nurse and love cardio, but I could work 4 10 hour shifts in family care, that is the driving force. Would love every Friday, Saturday Sunday off. But ahhh, I believe I will stay cardio.

I work in Family Practice, and I can truthfully say there are very few kids! I go a month or so before seeing one. It's not that big of a deal.

Go for it. You'll be okay with the few kids you do encounter. The variety of family practice is great but the pay may be lower than the specialty. That's the great thing about nursing: you don't have to work in just one field. Go for it! :)
