Think I Bombed the NLN-RN Today :'(

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

They should put a HUGE notice in the front of the book that screams: "Science section comprised of 60% Physics, 35% Chemistry, and 5% Biology!" I could cry. Sure it's a bit of an exaggeration but I'm nearly 36 and I haven't seen Physics since the 8th grade nor Chemistry since my sophomore year of high school. Even then the teacher was a coach with half his team in the room....

SWTCC doesn't require Chem for nursing and due to finances I left it out for now. We only need to make a 100 for consideration.

We have to wait two weeks for our grades. I can barely think straight now.

How bad does it look to take it multiple times in order to get accepted? I can't afford the university nursing schools right now, even with Financial Aid.

Thanks,

L

Oh that NLN is a tricky thing! It leaves youfeeling very confused! The first time I took it I felt super cocky and just knew I didnt fantastic...I didn't! I had to take it a second time around, I very that I did horribly the second time but I actually hit the high 90s in all the catergories. I don't think this test can be gauged on "feelings" of how one did. Its going to be a LONG 2 week wait but then you will know. If you arnt happy with your grades you can take it over again and it will not reflect poorly on you in anyway. I hope you did amazing!! Hang in there over the next 2 weeks!

Thanks for your encouragement!! I'm a little more relaxed about the whole thing now, especially when I remind myself that at least 25% of the questions from each section were the experimental ones. Hopefully I missed THOSE, lol!!

Just about another week.

I'm so sorry you don't think you did well! I'm sure things will work out for you

Do most schools require the NLN test before admission into the nursing program?

I'm at a 4 year university and I just got in last semester, but I was not required to take it.

No, not all. I'm trying to do this at a community college here in town (stair stepping my way financially to an MSN-hopefully!!)

I know that the University of Memphis (Loewenburg School of Nursing) makes nurse hopefuls take an entrance exam but I cannot remember the name of it.

The thing is, now that I have calmed down a little I realize that even if I fall short of the 100 pts required that I can take it again, and this time either take the physics and chem classes or self teach, then blow that test out of the water!!!

I just hate to fail. ;)

I took the NLN a few weeks ago and left the test thinking "well everything went well, until the test started". I didnt take long at all for the NLN to get my scores back so that was delightful. I am not a good guesser or anything lucky like that, I'm just average like most people. I actually got a 90th percentile on the NLN RN.

Don't fret to much over this, I think a lot of people think they do terrible and it really turns out okay. This test is more to weed out the people who really shouldn't be in the RN program without really harsh standards that could leave out qualified applicants.

This is one of those tests where you either know it or you don't and your score really is about what you prepared for.

I hope you did excellent as I can tell from your post that you really want this. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Also there are some angels on here that have posted their general chemistry notes. You may be able to look over those to brush up your skill rather than having to pay for a class if your a good self learner. There are also Anatomy and Phys notes on here somewhere too.

OMGosh!!! I feel like such a giddy little school girl, but I got a composite score of 146 and they only want 100!!! Let's hope that plus my GPA (3.75) will get me into a class of 62!

So sounds like the thread ends on a happier note than it started? Nice to hear!!

Congrats!!! I took the NLN-RN Pax test back in Jan and I felt the same way. We didn't have to take a physics class but the science part had way too many physics questions. I'm not even sure how they come up with the scores because I did horrible on the Vocabulary part. Never heard or seen any of those words in my life. But I ended up with a composite score of 121. Again... good luck with getting accepted. You should have no problems with that high of a score and GPA.
