I would try asking that over in general student discussion area. They have already started core classes and can probably offer more assistance for this type question. However, I think that is great that you are looking to learn before entering. Doing so will help build your confidence that we are all sure to need in nursing school.
Stay on top of your anatomy, especially physiology.
Also, my CC offers a credit/no credit course in dosage calculations and math for nurses. Maybe you can find similar courses in your area. Wouldn't hurt to be ahead of the game once you do start the program.
As for the journals, I don't think that's a bad idea. Sometimes it's those heart felt nursing stories that really remind me why I'm getting into this field and kinda recharges my battery so to speak.
Good luck!
i made a post with great free resources for nursing school.

Ams24, I felt the same way before I started nursing classes. Since you don't know the texts you will use for sure, my best advice is to read as many posts on this site as possible! I found they gave me a 'feeling' of what to expect. Once you get started in classes, you can always ask the profs what to expect for the following semesters. Right now, I am working on making drug cards that I will need for next semesters clinicals...while I am on the semester break.
Good luck!

Hi! I am just about finishing my pre-requisites this year and am going to be starting real nursing classes this fall. Are there any good things to be reading/doing before starting the real stuff? Are there any books anyone recommends reading for motivation/inspiration or for planning? Would a subscription to a monthly nursing journal be helpful? A teacher once gave me chicken soup for the nurses soul and I really enjoyed it. Thanks!
