Things that should be banned in acute care.

1) Caffeinated beverages (for the patients and visitors, of course). I'm so tired of people drinking a liter of Dr. Pepper and then complaining that they can't sleep. Conversely, the people that request a sleeping pill and then an hour later request a coke or cup of coffee.

2) Cable television. Instead, I think there should be a health care version of pay per view that forces people to watch documentaries about their respective primary issues and comorbidities.

Any other ideas?

Wow! Yeah our patients definitely like the "hospitality" my hospital enforces. You want a PB&J sandwhich at 2 am? Umm...well I guess I can go down get security to let me in to the kitchen and make you one myself since there is no one else here...Wait...Seriously? You want me to do that /trudge trudge trudge. Pt takes one bite and falls asleep

I would ban being rude to hospital staff, thinking that everything will be done by the time you want to go to bed, because you always go to bed at 7pm at home, calling more than 2 times in 5 minutes if you are not dying/on the floor/bleeding out, children in isolation rooms.

I wish call lights had a lockout like PCA pumps. You can only push it once every 10 minutes, with a limit of 3 times an hour. (I know, I'm a generous soul.)

The first thought that came to my mind when I read the title was FAMILY! LOL

When I was a child, the local hospital only offered TV to pts who could pay for it, up until I was a teenager. When we went to visit family, we always made sure they had $1 bills to pay for TV. I think it was $2-3/day.
