The use of Ztrack for ALL intramuscular injection

Published

I am a nurse educator and have heard some buzz that updated information is showing that it is recommended to use Ztrack for ALL intramuscular injections. Are any of you out there currently utilizing this in practice or teaching it in the classroom? All text I have found do not mention it, I did, however find a few articles dating back to 2008 saying it has best results.

Any info is appreciated!

Unfortunately, I don't remember the books, but I remember specifically reading this in the text book for my ADN through Excelsior in 2012 and my BSN this year through Western Governor's University. In practice, I have noticed that in psychotic patients who are agitated there seems to be less "leakage," when using z-track as the muscles are often tense and the patient is constantly moving during injection. I know this is just anecdotal but maybe it helps.

We train everyone to use z-track at my facility. I actually just learned about that policy today, because I finally got around to completing my "safe injection" training that I was supposed to do when I was hired, lol.
