The Politics of Mgmt Cleaning house

Published

3 Wks ago got great eval. New Admin, new DON now. Asst DON cleaning house after top tier gone. Vengeful? Maybe, maybe not. Getting rid of the old and in with the new, maybe. This just happened to me. Got glowing eval 3 wks ago, now gone with the wind. Was never a call-in, never late, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Never a word that I needed to improve. Will take it in stride and move on. Any one else had this experience?

Thanks Nascar Nurse. the termination speech was full of bs that I have never heard of before. None of it was ever mentioned to me, I was never counceled on the need to improve in anyway. I never got notification that a complaint had been mad. As you all know resident complaints must be documented and followed thru for the state. This never happened. I had never been late, never missed a days work. So they really had to hunt to find anything to let me go. Being in a right-to-fire state has made termination without cause and due process easy.

I think it's sad what's happening in this economy- too bad administration doesn't ask staff (CONFIDENTIALLY- HELLO) for cost-cutting ideas- we've got a lot on our minds!

Cut administrators? One administrator salary = 2 nurses, or more support staff, with less administrators and more nursing staff there would be a lot less problems carrying out patient care, less need for CYA paperwork, less mistakes, more direct patient contact, less angry patients, etc, etc, it's a win win!:D

"The new guy wanted to "bring in his own people" who would kow-tow to him."

You hit it right on there. I think it is more about power and obedience then money. Its too bad patient care isn't the priority.

Happened to me and several others about 6 years ago. New owners and management. I'd been with the company for several years and always had glowing reviews. The excuse they used was that they wanted an all RN staff. THEN they called me about a year later and asked me to come back! WTH!! The company had many housecleanings in the next couple of years and finally had to close their doors d/t some problems with Medicaid and billing. So glad I wasn't there anymore.

That is why I'm not loyal to any hospital.

My last non-nursing job had regular blood-lettings about every 2 years, usually in January. I got very good at keeping my head down and staying off of the radar. I'm not loyal to any job or manager.
