The new NCLEX

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I am stressing over the new NCLEX. I have heard that there are no study books available for this. Has anyone seen any? Our teachers really don't have much information on it either. They have told us that there will be touch screen pictures and math. I would feel so much more comfortable with the old multiple choice. If anyone has any info, please, please share. :) I'll stil use my olf NCLEX books to study, but I would love to have one in the new format.

Thanks, Lisa

I first heard about the new NCLEX last week on this board. At first I thought it was just a rumor. It's not. Our school hasn't heard about it, but Kaplan just got the word this week. They will start modifying their program, hopefully soon, in order to prepare people to take the new style.

Yes, we should know all this information. The problem with the change is that for nearly two years we have been taught test taking strategies geared toward the NCLEX. Every exam we've had is based on this. To change the style will mean a change in approach to the exam, and for some people a change in how you think these questions out. Having to choose when the answer is there in front of you is very different from coming up with the correct word out of the blue. Sure, it can be done. But it still takes preparation.

I agree cyberkat! If there are going to be changes implemented in April of this year, advance notice was in order. I am not graduating until next year but, like everyone else, have been "trained" to take tests a certain way. Now, if they do indeed change the tests, I will have to have a crash course in this new manner of testing. Perhaps, it would have been better for them to say the changes will take place in two to four years to let students/instructors be better prepared for this. I also agree that this is NOT conducive to helping the nursing shortage in the least!!!!
