In regards to the trending topics of "I can't pass (insert whatever test that is being taken here,)" but I just don't want to/can't/don't have the time to study so I need help now...

You paid for your education. It would behoove you to invest in the time to study in order to enjoy the full benefit of it.

CCC, a Paramedic blogger, couldn't have said it any better; "If you can't put your education near the top of your priorities, how can you expect to have any notion of a successful career in the back of an ambulance?"

He may be talking about EMS, however for nursing, or any other career field, the concept is the same.

Study, put your best forward, and take responsibility for your actions. This advice will not only help you during your education, it will also help you gain respect, professionalism, and personal satisfaction through your career and in life.

Whoa your school had open-book tests? Oh how I wish my major nursing classes had open-book tests. My GPA would be much better than it is now. Right now it's pretty good, but it took a few semester to finally get used to nursing test questions. Geez, these girls don't realize how good they had it.[/quote']

It is the only test we have ever gotten like this, and not a major class by a long shot. It's all about communication, teaching domains & strategies, evaluating research articles..stuff like that, with mostly group projects. My prof started by saying 'you have been learning the science of nursing, here I'm going to teach you the art of nursing'. Give me the science (and NCLEX questions!) any day over this class, it's torture.

It doesn't help that we, (at least most who grew up in the U.S., it seems), were raised thinking that grades are more important than true learning! I know I get stuck in the mindset that it is me vs. the teacher/professor and that my job as a student is to figure out how to get an "A" out of them with the least ammount of work. Ridiculous!

Well, and open book test can be pretty tricky. I'm in a BSN completion program online. We have open book tests, but if you don't know the aerial, there's no way you can complete the test in the time allotted if you have to look everything up. They can be pretty doggone hard.
