The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

omg that is terrible. I also have MC. I just e-mailed her to verify whether I will receive the scholarship. I received the award e-mail. Did not get anything in the mail. I can't believe they could make a mistake like that. :-(

This has made me super paranoid, but I don't want to bother my analyst. I received the the congratulations email, and nothing by mail, but I'm still paranoid. I wish they would send out another mailing or something like, we're sorry for the confusion but the people on the following list have received scholarships or something.......

Sigh, I'm sure everyone else is paranoid too. If anyone calls or emails their analyst, will you keep us updated?

Hi I called my analyst CL and she told me welcome packages are not going out until September 20th. But if my school had any questions they could contact her

I e-mailed my analyst last night. Have not gotten a response yet. I did receive an award letter by e-mail. I have not gotten a rejection letter in the mail so that is a good sign. I wont call unless for some reason I do get one in the mail. But I will let everyone know my response. I've never tried to contact my analyst so I'm not sure if she is good about responding or what is the best way to reach her.

I'm just hoping my rejection letter comes today! So is my husband. Until it comes we can't help but hold on to this little tiny thought in the back of our heads (especially in light of all the mistakes they have made) that I might be getting the scholarship. I can deal with not getting it... I just don't deal well with unknowns. I can't even imagine the anxiety that must come along with what you are dealing with bobwolq!

Her analyst was KH same as mine.... She emailed her to verify and got a response saying it was sent in error that she did not get the scholarship.. It was horrible..

Maybe your friend should call to make sure. The analyst may have been mistaken or not have had the list. Did your friend get a letter in the mail? Only her and 1 other person seem to have had a mistake made and the other person got a letter in the mail and an award e-mail, but was told by her analyst that the letter was a mistake and she did receive it. Maybe the e-mail was a mistake. I hope so! Just a thought.

I emailed my analyst today (mine is MC). I'm waiting for her to email me back. If they lied to me about receiving the scholarship I will have a fit!

I got my denial letter. I know it seems crazy but it's a relief for it to finally be over! :) Good luck y'all!

I have MC as well. I e-mailed her last night, but did not receive a reply. I ended up calling her around 2 pm. She was happy to look it up for me and I am a recipient. She also told me that there'd be a packet coming out in the mail... The first thing she asked was did I get anything in the mail. She replied "thats a good thing". She also just came back from vacation today so e-mail is probably full. Your best bet would probably be to call her...

Hope that calmed your nerves a little :)

Do any of you know where exactly we are allowed to fulfill the service obligation? How do we know if a hospital has a critical shortage of nurses?

I'm pretty sure I read on the website that HRSA determines if the hospital has critical shortage, you have to submit info to them before accepting offer of employment. Also on the website there's a way to look up facilities that are underserved.
