Hi All!
I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.
I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.
When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.
So I want to know are there any men out there?
Okay, I have one especially for the guys. What part of nursing school (or practice) have you found most difficult? I mean is there any part of things that you've kind of gotten the "unwelcome" feeling because you are a guy.
I'm sure there are differences in the programs from place to place. The program I am entering has a maternal/child nursing semester. I know there are bunches of male doctors in this area and I'm okay with it - I have been involved with the birth of my kids - but it just seems to me like some women may not take to the idea of male nurses while they are delivering.
Opinions?

Poor Agent! I have faith in you, though - you're so smart, I'm sure you'll be fine! Just a moment of self-doubt, perhaps?
Is there any way once you start nursing courses you'll be able to take out more financial aid and possibly work less?
Screw the nursing school curriculum, it's all about the color of the uniform. There is nothing that inspires confidence more that royal blue, I don't care what you say. It actually wasn't that bad. I did however get accepted to two PN to RN programs. You got it, declined the purple uniform school for the hunter green uniform school. This is where sexism (is that a word?), in nursing, rears it's ugly head; school uniform colors. It's good to hear from all of you guys. I am married, 32, father of three. I work as an LPN and attend RN school. This is very fulfilling work. I like to go home knowing I served someone in need.
Good luck to all of you.

Hello All!
I'm 20 years old and a first year JBN student, just finished my first semester of my 4 year program. I've just glanced over some of the pages here, but it seems as though i'm a young pup here...interesting. I'm one of approximately 13 guys in my class, out of about 100. And am currently working for Comcast technical support as a supervisor to fund my tuition.
whoa whoa...hold on a second here...you guys have different color uniforms dependant on what school you go to? We just have the full white here.
Best of luck to you all
Hey Guys,
I am 32 and finishing up my prereq's, I have two to go before I can start applying to nursing school. I am totally changing directions. I am currently a financial analyst, but I am getting no satisfaction out of it, and am bored to death sitting behind a desk. I have been volunteering in the ER of a level 1 trauma center, and have really enjoyed the experience. It has told me that I am making the right decision in making my switch. Last Friday night I had to sit for an hour with a hysterical mother who was medi-vac'd in with her 12 year old son that was the victim of a hit and run. I really felt a sense of accomplishment helping her through that tough time. I stopped by the kids room last night, unfortunately he still hasn't come out of his coma.
Any thoughts about career directions? Anyone out there who has been in their nursing career for a while that would have gone a different direction during or after nursing school. I am thinking about working towards nurse anesthetist, but I don't know much about it.
Just happy to be part of the board.
