Hi All!
I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.
I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.
When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.
So I want to know are there any men out there?
I'm in my last semester of the accelerated/second degree BSN program at Georgetown, graduating next month.
In my cohort of 57, there were 9 guys which I think is the highest percentage they've ever had. I've yet to have a problem with any sort of discrimination by, or interpersonal drama with female nurses. As long as you're comfortable working with, and working for women supervisors you should be fine.
For whatever reason, most of the guys who I've worked with who were already RN's seemed to end up either in the Emergency Dept or in some kind of ICU setting.

Congratulations on your progress so far!
It's funny you mention that most of the guys you worked with ended up in ED or ICU because I think that is where I want to go....at least right now.
It may change by the time you graduate, but right now it's super tough to get a job in an ICU right out of nursing school. ED is also very tough. Even though I'm doing my Senior Practicum in a MICU at a big hospital, I'll probably have to start out working in ED or some sort of IMC or step-down unit for a year or so, then transfer to ICU.
I'm a male, 49 yrs old and starting my second semester in LPN class down here in South Louisiana. One of 3 males in the class of 24 total, all of whom I'm old enough to be called "old man". Bunch a kids, what you gonna do. Being out numbered, you just have to go along with the program and take all their sassy remarks. I'll be glad when I'm done, believe me! Oh, did I also mention that I'm in better shape than "All of them"!
Greetings fellow dudes. Just got my acceptance packet today, officially a nursing student and truly proud to be. I am 1 of 2 males in my class of 40. I think there are 3 other men in the program ahead of me. That makes 5 of 110. It is going to be a big change being surrounded by females coming from auto sales management where we had 2 women in the entire organization and they answered phones and made coffee, and also working in a hardware store part time now while in school where we rarely even have a female customer let alone other female employees. All I can say is, I really hope the other dudes are cool....
Hi all! I've just signed up to this site and i'm suprised to see so many guys including me. I'm a second year student in nursing from the university of ottawa. I've met a lot of guys in my program but they're mostly older than me (i'm 22). I'm doing a bachelor's degree in nursing (4 yr program) and thinking of doing my masters: i'm thinking of becoming a nurse practioner.
As of now my grades are higher than 80% in all my classes (physiology, psychology, microbiology, anatomy.ect) maybe one day i'll consider medecine, we'll see. Glad to meet all of you and I want to congratulate all of us for our hard work.
Oh by the way, having to study with all of these female students isn't that bad! Especially when you're single like me Oh and all of the students i've met thus far are very nice, helpful and supportive so no complaints here.
Hello everyone! I just found out a few days ago after being on a waiting list for 2 years that I will be starting my associates nursing program next month! It is an accelerated program, so I will be done in roughly 16 months. I'm married with 3 kids and can't tell you all how excited I am to finally start working towards my goal! I'm interested in working in pediatrics. Any ped nurses out there?
Greetings all! Starting BSN at Towson University this fall (Hagerstown Campus). Long time lurker here but decided to finally register. Went for New Student Orientation and was the only guy there:uhoh3:. Hopefully when we all get together for Nursing Orientation, there will be more! Graduate of SP' 2013 in the making:cool:

I'm starting my ADN program in a couple months! I've recently started working as a CNA and I know for sure nursing is what I want to do. :)
